John made this for me a few months ago, but now surplus to requirement as i upgraded to. Fender Jazz Elite its a superb combination. It provides each pick up with its own volume and tone control. It also has a series/parallel toggle switch slots straight in and as it has solderless connections, even i can do it! happy to post in UK ( included in the price) thanks

Suggestions for an inexpensive P Bass with a Jazz neck
fretmeister replied to Minininjarob's topic in Bass Guitars
I put one together - a no-name P body from the classifieds and bought a real Fender Jazz neck (Mexican). I had tuners and a pickup already but I needed a pickguard. -

The only stock FMIC Precision Bass with a thin neck I can think of is the Nate Mendel Road Worn signature model like mine, but you're not going to get one of those for less than about £8-900. Nut width on these is 1.615", which is not a million miles away from the Jazz's 1.5". Most modern C-neck Precisions are very close at 1.625". The Sire P5 (and P7) are a little wider at 1.653", but there's not a lot in it. What really matters is the thumb-fingers thickness. Go to a store and try a few to see what fits your hand... My other suggestion would be to buy a genuine Fender neck. The roasted Jazz neck is usually around £3-400 new. Which Precision do you have, btw? -

I'm so glad I went to the expense and effort of watching the live stream of the Back to the Beginning show. I'd really be kicking myself now if I hadn't. Although Ozzy looked frail on the night he's always had a frailty about him. It's kind of weird because throughout his whole career I've almost always expected him to drop dead at any second given his excessive lifestyle, yet when it finally happened it came as a total shock after seeing him performing only a couple of weeks ago. R.I.P Ozzy. A true musical legend.
-
He did come out with some classic lines... Ozzy, "We started off as a Rock band messing with drugs, but we ended up as a drug band messing with rock".

Big boost (and hope I don't jinx it by announcing it) but I managed to score a Hipshot A Style bridge in the States on ebag for a very agreeable price. Fingers crossed it is as described (as in the correct string spacing). Fingers crossed it gets here. Still gonna leave my wanted thread open for now... Still got a neck pocket to clean up then probably build up, so plenty to do before then...

Sire P7 would do. I'm just not quite sure whether it’s still considered as inexpensive. -
The Ampeg PF50T is worthy of consideration. I have one they are fantastic and a real bargain at the moment on the used market 😎🤘
-
You know what, that is a really good question and, on typing the post, I'd completely missed that very obvious point! What the hell was I thinking? Did I really only bring one? Which is very odd as I had two matching Tobias 6ers and a gorgeous Status fretless 6er for that band too. The screws breaking happened, but where was my spare? 🤯 #AgeRelatedMemoryLoss lol...

That's the one with the crackly jack socket?
-
It looks like it, but I struggle to believe that it was deliberately infilled with wenge on a neck this cheap. I'm going to assume it's a happy accident - someone picked up the wrong bit of wood...

I did the opposite some years ago. Stuck a P neck on a J body. They're compatible with each other if we're talking about Fender/Squier. -

Squier Sonic P. I have one. £150 of awesome 👌 Ok, I installed a Lollar P pickup because I already had one but it was fine enough stock tbh. So on paper that's £300 of awesome that now sounds as good as any P out there imho. -

Love my p bass. It’s perfect for a lot of songs I do but I wouldn’t mind keeping it downtuned and having another bass for more delicate tunes where I need to move around the fretboard more with my tiny hands. So are there any cheaper basses that have this, or is as simple as buying a P bass and a jazz neck and swapping them around? Are the necks mostly compatible with each other? Wouid prefer a Fender or Squire but open to thoughts about anything else. Budget is maybe around £500 but may mod it for a bit more after the initial purchase.
