  4. IEMs are great for that too - we have a normal guitar amp and a normal drum kit, I have in ears which does both the protection and the monitoring. I hear them (they are in the mix too), but I hear me louder. It is so good to be able to hear the nuances of what you are playing one the bass (although scary when you first start) loud and clearly.

  8. Oh, they know, I have made it abundantly clear. I have not, but I don't want more gear TBH. Also, I think IEMs are a great idea for a quiet stage, but when you have a tub thumper and a normal guitar amp (not loud by any means) on stage, I think it kind of negates them and I'd rather go for protection over monitoring. I have considered this option in the past, however.

  14. Hi guys. Looking to trade my original (I believe 1989) Bartolini Tobias split pickups for same era dual coil pickups. I know some folks preferred the sound of the splits as they have a little more of that J bass vibe to them. I prefer the duals for what I’m after so if anyone has a pair and willing to trade, I’d be very interested. No sales, I’m strictly looking for a trade only. They are in a good shape considering the age, and work and sound exactly as they should. Again not looking for Gibson era pickups, have tried most of these and they’re not my jam. Thanks!
  15. Is there a thread about "pet peeves"? I'll put my music bass related ones there. Another irritational prejudice is those #@&£ers that drive straight through t-junction roundabouts without respecting the stop sign. Can't count the times I've got to the roundabout way before any traffic on my right, but can see a vehicle or line of vehicles that are far enough away that I have the right of way to enter the roundabout, but they are going so quickly without slowing down for the stop markers on the road, that they might barrel over and hit my car, me and my passengers when I enter.
  16. Have you tried hearing more of your bass via IEMs @ezbass? It can be a very simple and inexpensive setup to be effective. Take the Behringer MA400 headphone amp with passthrough which is about £15. Get your bass into it, connect your IEMs (£5-£20). On stage vary your bass to taste, whilst still hearing the band ambiently.

Mine are a messy group gathered over the years: most of my gigs are local and not bundle in with other's gear. Nicely organised desk and bass-space. Been to a wedding recently? 😉 Note to self: try the 15 on top, it doesn't look right 😁

  19. I bought my 64 p bass last year for a significant birthday present to myself and it's by far the most incredible instrument I've ever owned. It's player grade and was played to death by a famous UK session player from 1969 if I remember correctly, ans I can see why! Every note across the entire fretboard is clear as a bell and completely in tune. Definitely completely bonded with it more than any bass I've ever owned!
  20. Cool, great info re your TC gear. I read a post off yours on the RH750 with interest. The BAM200 is prefect for the small gigs and as a backup, but I need to use it more with the cabs I've got. I need to get hold of a TC cab one of these days to see if the tone/range output using the BAM200 is happiest powering them.
  21. Really like the pick-guard as a mix of '52 P-bass and Marcus Miller Jazz! I could see it doing pretty well as a body/pick-up concept in a MIM model if they committed to either fretted/fretless and put a passive tone circuit in there instead, with a more regular set of finishes. Those pick-ups would work great for a warm fretless tone. But then that would just make it another boring Fender? Another thought, is there a good reason why we don't see more effects in basses? There are plenty of 9V or 18V active basses that only power a 3-band EQ. It'd be cool to see something like a compressor and SansAmp in a body, which everyone could find useful. Maybe even a tuner? Could even be clever with an XLR output and phantom power?
  22. Depping gig at Ashby Road Sports Club in Hinckley last night. Was particularly pleased to try out the bitsa P bass I’ve been working on for the last few weeks - from what I can tell it’s at least partly an oldish Squier Affinity. It sounded great. Not “vintage P bass” great but much in the same ball park and very usable indeed. I was planning to upgrade the pickups but tbh it sounds fine as it is. Weirdly my IEM sound was terrible - everything was just distortion which was so distracting I took them out after a couple of songs. Half time I swapped the lead, the batteries and the headphone amp itself, and reduced the volume of the mix coming into my monitor channel. But it still sounded awful - I suspect I may have blown something in my IEMs! So ended up playing without any monitors and just using the onstage sound, just like the old days. Good gig tho.

  25. What we found worked well was a video of us playing. This helped to connect us with an agent who managed the whole process for us. I actually have a list of blues festivals in the South West if it's of interest. Now, I don't play with that band any more, but I've found the same process (getting a video, great website and social media stuff) can connect you with an agent and let them do the rest.
