  9. Chris Hillman was (and is) originally a mandolin player, and prior to joining the Byrds he never even picked up a bass (hence his rather melodic style: he approached it as a very big mandolin with very thick strings). That bass was loaned to him to mime in a TV appearance, he thinks it was a Fender body with a homemade neck, and it was absolutely atrocious. He later used a sunburst P-bass with transition logo on Monterey, which was then stripped and stained in brown, and used furher in the Burrito Bro's. As for that '63 P-bass, it has a rosewood fretboard, so I'd suspect that someone took a hacksaw to the headstock, and reshaped it. Also because a true <57 P-neck had the square heel just like the Telecaster, which doesn't fit in the curved neck pocket. Hence you can install a curved neck in a square pocket, but not the other way around.

  12. I'm liking "Stumpstock". I like it a lot.
  13. It appears to have been restored from a back-up dated January 23; I see no posts more recent than that. I don't think that new posts are going through, either. I just posted, but can't see it. @Woodinblack : Big problem..? Work in progress..? Can we help at all..?
  14. They're only "experts" in what they like. We have people coming up and telling us we were great. That doesn't mean we were great, but that they liked the evenings entertainment. We did our job.
  15. Can’t believe nobody beat me to it. . . If this doesn’t sell, will you break it up for parts? 🤠
  16. Or of course Thick as a Brick - Jethro Tull….
  17. Quick question, I’m a mild eczema suffer which unfortunately affects my hands. When I have an outbreak, it can make my plucking fingers painful if the keens are in the wrong places (which they annoyingly usually are). For gigs, when necessary I have been using both the white microporous tape and regular flesh coloured Elastoplast, but it seldom lasts a full set. I’ve seen a few double bassists using finger tape, so I know I am not alone, but what tape are you/they using? Oh, and before anyone say’s “use a bow”, let me assure you the world is not ready for my bowing technique (or lack of)😂
  18. A straightforward solution: buy a loudness meter. Not so straightforward issues are that the space, and placement of the meter affect levels a lot. Any colourization from the surroundings may give awkward levels. Professionals make the first test with RTA to get rid of the unwanted colouring. Then the level can be easily matched with a relatively simple meter. No need to buy a B&K.
  19. It's not too bad - the bricks are glued. The evil "Kraggle" for those who've seen the Lego movie.
  20. Yep! Crazy lightweight for an Ash bodied Jazz.
