  1. Past hour
  2. I’m not sure it looks stock to me. I know that there were a few hardware options open. The control plate is apparently a different size from the standard StingRay so not an easy replacement part to source.
  3. I would say, get a better strap. Mine is fine with a wide Hofner leather strap and it barely moves more than an inch or so. As a side note, I used Hofner straps on quite a few basses as an ironic joke about how awful their basses are and why McCartney isn't my favourite bass player. Playing a Status Buzzard with a Hofner strap? Next level irony awards to me please. Since then, I've moved to Harvest and they're brilliant, but the irony meter has been substantially reduced.
  4. Hi, I’m not sure what the gear ratio is - I’ll try to find out. Each tuner weighs 61g and the bushing outside diameter is 12mm. Cheers
  5. Oddly enough John Pye auctions have just come back and as expected have washed their hands of the situation. Distance selling regs do not apply, so I'll be in touch with their local trading standards for selling dangerous goods. Doubt anything will come of it but if nothing more I can make a fuss. If anybody has any other suggestions that might make their life legally difficult please pipe up. Lesson learnt never to use them again Rob
  6. A recent new addition (expensive double bass) means that I need to sell some things that I'm not using and sadly this 1977 Musicman Stingray is next on the chopping block (and indeed, is the last one to go). This is all original and was purchased from the lovely team at Moto Music. You can find a comprehensive selection of images here: https://motomusic.co.uk/products/music-man-stingray-with-maple-fretboard-natural-1978?_pos=3&_psq=stingray&_ss=e&_v=1.0 I have the bass in my possession (it's literally behind me now) and can take any additional images you may want to see. The bass is in excellent condition and is an amazing sounding and playing bass. It's a great collectible, too, with values rapidly rising. It's a slab body with no contour. It has the sealed pre-amp and The frets are pencil thin, which is a feature of the early Stingrays. It plays wonderfully well and has an even action all the way up and down the neck, but it would be remiss of me not to mention this. The case that came with the bass wasn't really fit for purpose but I will purchase a suitable hard case for it (or take some cash off the price to compensate you). Collection and a chance to check it out is recommended. I'm based in Bristol and work for myself, so that's not a problem. I can post this, but we would need to agree a courier and pay for insurance, so expect to pay around £75 for this (if you're based in the UK). I think I've priced this fairly at £3395, which is 20% less than shop prices, but I'm happy to discuss it. Not interested in trades (as the expensive double bass is here!).

  7. I've not opened it yet. I'm still awaiting the response from the auction house. I did ring up an authorised Headrush repair company in Leeds and it's £90 just to look at it plus whatever is needed to fix it plus me dropping it off (or sending to and fro via courier). If a new amp section is needed then I can easily see that being £100 and that plus £90 plus £20 x 2 for delivery moves this to circa £220 for repair which makes it not cost effective. So if I get no joy from the auction house, then I'll open it up and have a look. My money is on the transformer burning out but what do I know Lets see what the auction house says. It makes no mention of the fact it doesn't bloody well work and tripped my fuseboard. Thankfully it caused no other damage. I'm not hopeful and am expecting to write it off. Thanks for the suggestions.. Rob
  8. I like it a lot. Previously was using a Helix, though the Noble preamp replica most often when recording as I struggled with the amp options. I also sometimes used Logic amps, often with the Helix Noble, but again I wasn’t that fussed with them either. This plugin works for me as I like the tone of the AG amps, but also find the others useful. And the cabs work well for me too. I was debating the spend, but the ease of use and instant ‘better than what I have’ made it a quick no brainer for me. I expect other people’s opinions may vary.
  9. It’s a left over from double bass gamba origins. The set up including the new bridge on the GagIiano was the work of the late great Roger Dawson. I remember that he said Rinat asked for modern 4 string spacing on the 3 string bridge. The bridge on the Da Salo is reputedly the original that was in place when Dragonetti played it. That style of bridge was not just used on 3 string instruments, here is an ancient 4 string bridge. The holes in this bridge were for a gut string restraint tied to the tailpiece, to keep the bridge in place when tuning.
  10. Check if the PCBA has any metal debris or burned areas (both sides). Is the speaker dis/connected? Any faulty connections? Test the speaker element functionality with a battery.
  11. Thanks Tony, I know if I were closer I'd be beating a path to your door. Re volume, this is the crux of the matter, and without understanding it's capabilities first, it's a risk. My band has been making every attempt to play quieter in recent months. The band is relatively new, coming up 2 years since we first talked about this project, and only 18 month since our very first gig, and we set off very enthusiastically allowing and tolerating everyone doing their thing, including the drummer. Now, he's a lovely guy, we're all firm friends now, and we love him to bits, but he can get a little bit excited. He's brilliant though, one of the best drummers I've ever played with (he's played the Royal Albert Hall, twice!). Thankfully, we can talk openly about these things, and some recent gigs have been sublime in their understatement and power. We did do The Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival last month, and I think because we were on a big stage with PA, monitors and engineers, he thought he could go for it a bit more. But it was in fact the opposite of what he should have done. The gig was still ok, but the drums on stage were too loud. The top and bottom of this dilemma is that if I can reign in the drummer I think I'll be ok, if not, then I think I'll need more oomph than the PF-50T can deliver. I do so wish I could take you up on your offer Tony! Rob
  12. … what Moog do you have out of curiosity? Also what sort of effects do you use with it? I’ve a Moog Subsequent 25 (and a Bass Station 2) and not sure what kind of board to build for them? I know it’ll be music dependant, but just to point me in the right direction lol!
  13. I can report that if Neck Diving was an Olympic event, this Hamer would be the 12-string bass version of Tom Daley and bring home multiple Golds. It's a true champ 🥇 But we knew that anyway.
  14. Did you get paid in wine?
  15. I'll edit for him now. I could give him Kelvin and totally confuse him. 😂 Dave
  16. You didn't mention how useful a torque wrench can be, especially with two rods.
  17. No that’s great stuff, I’m fairly novice on fretless so I have taken your advice and found that playing slightly flat is really helping. I dropped the bass off today at Chapel Guitars after a very spirited drive across some lovely countryside. Steve is great and totally understood what I wanted. Electronics, shielding and pickup correction all fine, and the neck options: I’ll keep the ebony fretless mustang neck as-is. But I’m going to have the original neck defretted and coated. It’s a really nice piece of rosewood so it’ll look lovely, and it’ll be nice to use the original neck. I can compare both anyway and see. We’re going to try a nitro coating to bring out the look of the wood.
  18. Dave, you'll need to provide Fahrenheit temperatures for Daryl.
  19. About tension: if you just change a G to a B, the tension may be very much equal. I use D'Addario tension chart, and there you can see that a suitable B has similar tension than a G.
  20. This is the third battery box replacement I've done in the last couple of years. One was an Ibanez, one my maple-board Spector and now this. I've never had an issue with the batteries in the cavity!
  21. I actually prefer a direct sale, but it always depends. Maybe you can send me your ideas via pm.
  22. If there's a lot of metallic powder around, put the magnet to a plastic box. Everything sticks to the surface, and when you remove the magnet, well, you got the idea.
  23. Finally here: https://sourceaudio.net/products/encounter
  24. The magnetic field is pretty wide but weakens really fast. Therefore if the sound is fine, just go and play.
