It’s going back since I can’t adjust the truss rod and about eight of the height adjustment screws on the bridge are stuck. Pros: It could be a great bass — sounds good, holds tuning well, and feels nice to play in the lower register. The pickups have a fairly low output, but noise wasn’t really an issue for me. Cons: The strings are way too low and rattle across the neck (especially on higher notes), and with the neck and bridge intonation basically impossible to set up, it’s just not workable. Lots of potential, but the non-adjustable truss rod is a dealbreaker.

Song writing partnerships: myth or reality?
Lozz196 replied to lemonstar's topic in General Discussion
In my last band the singer/guitarist wrote most of the songs. I contributed with a good percentage but music only. Sometimes I’d have an idea of a lyrics to a chorus which led to the theme of the song, other times no ideas on that at all so he would put whatever he was writing to it. It never bothered me what subject matter was put to my music. Sometimes we might each add a bridge, a start/ending, or changes to the others structure, again never any issues. -
Yes.

Never change, BC. -
Exp pedals I've really hardly touched at all, so I can't honestly say what I like and don't like about any of them.
-
But does he need one?

If you use a huge rig, you will likely use either SMART or Open Sound Meter before the gig to set up your baseline sound d. This is effectively tuning to the venue. As working musicians we do not have that luxury but in my opinion you still have all your channels, EQ, Dynamics and effects set up in advance, tweaking slightly the main output for conditions at the venue. Of course if you set up in an empty venue you will need to tweak once full of mobile acoustic absorbers, (people) arrive en masse.

For years I've limped along, increasingly less productively - working on my own as most people do and looking back I'm pretty pleased/positively amazed at some of the songs that have either materialised quickly or I've managed to work them out like removing a splinter. I've often thought it would be great to have someone to collaborate with - someone who "gets it" (the desire to write well)/"gives a sh!t" (understand why the writing well matters so much) - but how many people actually find that - I wonder if it's a bit of yeti hunt looking for someone to write with. Even Lennon/McCartney wrote a lot separately but even getting someone else to cast an eye over something and give a seal of approval might make a difference worth having. What's your experience - that it's actually hard to put half a song into the hat and give someone else free reign - or that too many disagreements arise?
-
Did you not like the Boss EV30 (which is also my one as it happens)? I've not really had reason to use it much before, but am liking it so far - well built and very cool that it has dual output!

TBF that does sound like a nice day out ☺️ -
Re OP question. I say yes, if you fancy one. You can always sell/trade it if it doesn't work out. I currently have three and love 'em all.

Mentioned before on BC, that after playing in a pub in Glasgow, a guy beckoned me over to where he was at the bar. "Good band mate," said he, " but if you can ever afford one, you need to try a Fender bass. They're brilliant!" I had been playing an Overwater, hand-built Jazz 5. Ooooooooooh, it really makes me wonder ...

That was the most practical thing I could think of, but I got the feeling I'd need to find an exp pedal I like and stick with it then take a lot of practice to get used to its feel and travel to be able to do those slides, exactly how and when I want. I was just using a borrowed exp pedal I'd never used in my life before, so maybe there's that.

JohnDaBass started following TC Tone Prints anyone with a HPF Tone print

TC Electronics Tone Print system is a neat solution to add effects directly to their amps. I have searched the TC site but cannot find a Tone Print that offers a HPF. Has anyone built a Tone Print with just a HPF and is prepared to share the file?
-
Gotcha. What I'm feeling is a really neat live effect (just from home use so far) is sliding in the octave up rather than punching it in so it's simply off/on. Bringing a smile to my face which kinda would be sufficient, but I suspect my bandmates will have a grin on too!

How was your open mic or jam night last night?
tauzero replied to tauzero's topic in General Discussion
At the Kingfisher in Shard End, Birmingham last night. We were in the front room, unlike previous occasions when we were in the back room. Took my Plenty cab and TC BAM200. A fellow bassist also came along - plugged him into my amp with my lead (home-made, Rean plugs, straight to right-angle) and after one song the lead fell out - oddly, the tip had come off the right-angle plug. Switched leads and all was well. At the end of the evening I found the tip on the floor. On examination, the central shaft that goes between the tip and the plug contact is splined and a press fit into the tip. New plug needed - at least I've got plenty of spares. And his Godin A5 sounded good through my little rig.
