Anyone have experience of the rosewood Chinese necks with pearl block inlays? Just wondering how well done they are and whether the ones with dots might be a safer bet.

I've listened to some ABing with the original boss pedals, and it sounds good in comparison to the originals. If you absolutely need certain boss sounds, particularly if it certain sounds that you maybe use sparingly so that you can condense you pedal board, then its great. If you just need a generic phaser and tremolo for example, then im pretty sure a HX one or even one of the Zoom equivalents would do a similiar job.

I'm looking for some advice on how to re-finish an area of a jazz neck I have. It came to me with a crack apparently professionally repaired. The crack has got a little worse, so I glued and clamped. After sanding back smooth the wood is a bit grey-pink when dry. When wet it's dark. Can it be stained to get closer to the original colour? I'll probably ending up replacing the neck but for now I just want to get it back together to test it out. Dry Wet -

I used a pair of Big Baby cabs for about 10 years gigging almost every weekend. Never thought I would find anything better/more suited to me and they would be forever cabs. They're bloody good. But I retired from regular gigging last year. Sold them both with the intention of downsizing everything. Bought a GR212 but it wasn't the right cab for me sonically. Ended up with a Monaco and although I've only done a couple of rehearsals and a festival gig with it I think it's better than the BF cabs. It's more controlled at home levels and definitely fills a bigger room better. It's almost like the volume is more consistent wherever you stand whereas the BF cabs threw a long way but if you were stuck right in front of them (just using a single cab) then you could get a bit lost. They were still better than most regular cabs but I think the LFSys improves in it significantly. And they feel a bit tougher too.

I got this from Bass Direct at the back end of last year mainly as a nice portable little to stick with a 10 inch speaker and make a restrained amount of noise with a mate in Mexico (a daft 110v country) knowing I would be moving back to 220/240 and not wanting to buy something I could only use for a short time. It did that job very well, but it also picked up a couple of small scratches because the noise making was partially an excuse to have a couple of beers and the carry bag is nice and convenient to fit in a gig bag front pocket but not padded so it doesn't stop your keys or the end of a jack plug scraping through. Shown in the pics and very much just cosmetic. Also works nicely as a basic home practice amp that can get loud enough to wake next door but one if you happen not to like your neighbours. And the aux in means you can play along to your favourites from the hit parade via one of those new digital music players or even a computer! Wild, wild stuff 😎 It's Phil Jones so it's a lovely clean sound. Passive / active switch also makes an appreciable difference when you remember to use it. I rather like the look of it as well. Brushed aluminium, ergonomic nobs, blueness. All good things in my book. I wouldn't be unhappy if this doesn't sell but I also have other things that do this and more, albeit not with the same sweet sound, and I am trying to cobble together some cash as something has caught my eye.... Yep. I ended up buying an old Trace Elliot combo instead fot that particular project. If i ever need an amp for something more than the odd gig, I might very well do pick one of these up!

Keep a look out on eBay or Facebook marketplace locally. Be open to anything and if it’s local go and test it out before you buy. -
The EBMM Sterling’s aren’t always lightweight, I’ve had 3 and all were above 9lb despite the smaller body.

Have you considered an EBMM short-scale? I'm a guitar player who occasionally plays the bass and with my bad back I had to park my Jazz Bass and favor of an EBMM Sterling short scale. I'm also on the shorter side so it's easier to play and definitely much lighter. Sounds awesome too.

I think you've summed the whole the thing up very well, and how you explained this cycle of buying in the beginning, realising your mistake, so you buy again, rinse and repeat' is just about the story of my life 🙄 Now that I've amassed a plethora of basses of all shapes and sizes (and spending a fortune in the process!), you turn your attention to the rest of the kit around you, and start throwing that out and replacing it. GAS I think they call it ! Frankly, if I had the best of the best I'd still wonder just how much better (or different) something else would sound. And you wouldn't believe how often I wished I lived closer to the likes of Bass Direct, Bass Gallery, or Andertons, etc. As it is, it's a five hour return journey just to get to somewhere with pavements, proper road signs, and street lighting. And the last time I ventured off on that pilgrimage I came home empty handed ! 😂 I most certainly will purchase a quality bass rig at some point. I had high hopes for the Rumble but after testing was a bit deflated. Time to save the pennies again ! Thanks once again for all the help and advice ☺️ - Today

I ended up playing mine for over 3 hours last night. I have one issue that wouldn’t affect me live when playing along with a bt track and switching fx, the track kinda stutters and goes out of time and then catches backup. Outside of that I love it. There is very little in the way of crazy fx but the core tones (eq, gain/drive, amp and compression) are killer, the octavers are unreal and it’s just a joy to play with and programme. I’ve tried a few nams, Ivan’s 66 B15 is great, there are a bunch of Avalon (737) and Neve captures that do a great job of just polishing the tone. Its everything I wanted the QC to be with none of the downsides. I have no noise from usb c or its original power supply, it’s just great. Very very impressed, looking forward to capturing my more esoteric gear the next few weeks.

I always worried about these things until the isolated tracks of famous tunes started to get released online. They're a bit of an eye opener and it made me rethink what's actually important about recording! Saying that, I'd never send a track to a studio if I'm doing a sesh if it's full of noise from my home setup, but if im on location doing recordings and theres some noise, I wouldn't go nuts about it.

They sound good too - the black one is very light and has that really woody hollow tone I often associate with early '70s P basses. The white one seems to have a thicker sound - more going on in the midrange (I think they have identical strings on them).

You might well be able to get a Gretsch G2220 ‘Junior Jet’ under £200 2nd hand. They’re fantastic basses for their money and punch well above their price imo.
