What are your irrational prejudices? I have some bonkers ones...

Ironically, and though I admire his ability, my favourite Level 42 songs are the ones without slap. Some of the ridiculous "pop"s, especially in 70's music simply don't fit in to the song. -

I'm indifferent to Wals - I think there was one song with a fretless in it which was OK, but otherwise they're indistinct. -

If looking at a for sale item I'll factor in the cost of a refin. The laughable one is "professionally relic'd". -

Just got one of these this arvo in the mail. Really busy tonight and tomorrow, so I'm just going to charge it fully and wait until Sunday to spend some time with it. I wasn't going to buy one, but it was discounted on ebay, I tried another code I thought was expired, but it took it, and my PP acct had a few $ in it from a minor partial refund for another item so it cost $A61 out of pocket, or 29.60UKP. -

I asked hypothetically. Would feelings about them be the same if he had included them. We'll obviously never know. -

Yamaha basses. A company that makes speed boat engines, calculators and motorbikes can't make good guitars. Single cut basses where the top bout runs half way up the fretboard. Shudders. -

Can I assume Leo didn't put blocks on a Precision from inception to selling up in 1965? But what if he did... -

Either way you could use a plug cutter and make your own dowel so you can have the grain whichever way you want it, luthiers usually do this. -

Fender has certain build standards so you know parts are interchangeable, as evidenced in a parts bass thread. They have a defined hierarchy for their products to match certain price points and quality expectations; however, the respective ranges can overlap and some lesser ones may be surprisingly good. I have a Squier Strat and a Fender USA Strat: they are both Strats, but each element of the USA one is noticeably higher quality than the Squier; I also have a MIM Strat and it falls somewhere in-between the two. A lot of other companies businesses are based on copying and/or replacing Fender original designs/parts; again they place their products at certain price points based on functionality and quality. Fender is the industry leader, others follow. Many products are deemed to be "better than a Fender", but the fact they feel the need to mention "Fender" tells the story. If you buy a Fender you have a pretty good idea of what you can expect to receive. If you buy another brand (I have Tokai, Levinson Blade, and parts Strats) you may or may not get something suitable "for the price", but it'll always be compared to the respective Fender in some way.
