police squad replied to Cornwall Steve's topic in General Discussion
I've done it several times, from Japan, From the USA. I've never has a problem. My wife's Fender PB70s came from Japan. £300 + duty and vat (which I can't remember exactly now) I went to Parcel Force to collect and pay the o/s amount you have some protection with ebay as they wont release the money till the goods have been delivered etc check the seller feedback etc -
Hello Bassassin. I did see that. Also seen your group recommended in other forums whilst researching. Sounds a cool group. But i dont have Fb or any other socialstuff like that.

Not in my experience. Trying to repair an Ashdown amp and they don’t have the schematics or can help in any way, they don’t seem interested at all.

Hi members Has anyone ventured down this route before ? Frustrated by not being able to find the bass I'm after, I frequently come across them for sale in Japan on evilbay, quite often with a modest delivery charge for shipment to UK or even included in the price. I understand about the import duty situation, etc however I guess my primary concern is more about taking the plunge and ordering if anything goes wrong regarding communication, language, damage or loss in transit, etc. Has anyone actually given this a go. If so, what were your experiences. Did it go well, or were there mega problems, or did it all go smoothly and you counted yourself lucky, and wouldn't hesitate to do it all again. And did you end up being stuffed for any unexpected costs? Many thanks in anticipation.

Reverb pricing seems to be “a race to the top” generally. How do folks realistically expect to sell, unless to investors?

Nope. I don't have money like that

200W is plenty for band rehearsals, even with a hard hitting drummer, and plenty loud for small bar sized venues without PA support as well. Trust me, I have plenty of experience with this. In by far most cases bigger venues will have PA support, so amp power is really a non existing issue here. Gigged some smaller outdoor festivals with just a 50W tube amp, with an audience that counted hundreds of people, at quite a few occasions, so yes, I know about this too (a loud noise rock power trio in most of these cases in fact). Also by far most amps comes with both a Volume/Gain knob and a Master Volume, if it is too loud for home practice simply turn it down, and if it should still be too loud, turn down the volume on your bass. Or use a feather to stroke the strings, which I assume the guys complaining about not being able to be heard or hear them self at band rehearsals with a 200W amp must be using (that or they are going for the much sought after mid scooped, famous "wet fart" tone, which is the prime recipe to being completely and utterly buried in a mix consisting of about equal amounts pure mud and absolute fizz).

I have just figured out the simple, yet achingly beautiful main hook from the Angelo Badalamenti composed tune Audrey's Dance, from Twin Peaks. Mark

One of these beauties now sits atop my board, ready to take on tour. It’s my first Morningstar “Pro” controller (having owned the MC3, 6 and 8!) and I love it. The screen is fantastic! (I’ve taken the film peel off now 😂👍)

The safety regulatory statement for power consumption is required by the standards (UL/cUL/IEC 60065 or 62368) to be stated at a minimum of 1/8-rated "RMS" power at the lowest rated load, which corresponds to a duty cycle of 12.5% (but the manufacturer may at their option use a higher number). This number originated from the hi-fi world where this was considered the approximate duty cycle of an unclipped full range signal (which IMO is unrealistic for bass guitar). If the normal operation of the amp is intended to be compressed, overdriven or distorted, the stated duty cycle may be increased to reflect the additional power consumed under these conditions at the manufacturer's option. Most test labs will test to verify that the amp can sustain the increased duty cycle without failure or presenting a safety/fire hazard under a test sequence called "abnormal conditions" testing, but not always (depending on the lab and the test routine because other abnormal conditions testing elements may suffice).

So, the fretless version I have is full scale 34" ... Which makes it a big instrument!..I expect that the medium ones are probably easier to bag up?... The Ritter bag I now have is good for full scale... & reasonably priced at just over 50 quid...
