  1. Past hour
  2. Meantime by Helmet has some killer bass lines. Really punchy tones and big riffs. Occasionally even dropping odd time signatures in post hardcore songs.
  3. I started with a Cub (2x5) as a practise tool, then added the PB300, powered cab and gigged that a lot. I then replaced the Cub with a Bass Buddy for an even smaller rig, which also did the job fine, but I finally ended up with a Flightcase (4x5) on top of the PB300 as I liked the idea of having a more powerful head for when I don’t need the ‘big rig’. Every version of my PJ setups have never failed to deliver, whether using a 5 stringer or an octave box, there’s plenty of clear, low end. For complete transparency, in case you haven’t guessed already, I’m a Phil Jones fanboy, but with good reason.
  4. Pretty sure it’s a keeper for me. My only complaint is that I didn’t get it at the same price as the other two BassRigs (which I bought used).🙂
  5. Tell me you're xxxx without telling me you're xxxx Anyone who says that is a grade A cu.......
  6. Lovely set up, got one with a white scratchplate, may have to copy you!
  7. Agree, I loved Zia but most of them are Roly Wynne's parts adapted by Zia. I think Pungent Effulgent, Erpland and Strangeitude are all great bass albums. Roly Wynne is one of my absolute bass heroes.
  8. Happy to pay £200 cash on pick up? Curious as to why you went Retrovibe on the tuners?
  9. Sad news - had the pleasure of briefly meeting him at Wembley at a Man Utd champions league final. Came across as a really decent bloke. i miight buy a toby jug to put on my amp at the next gig in his honour
  10. This has made me genuinely feel empty inside. A real hero from my youth and a definite influence on me when I was around that age. The Roses purple patch produced what, to my taste, is some of the best and most evocative music and a lot of that was the bass riffs and how they worked in with Reni's drumming (this hi hats!) He even made Primal Scream sound decent for a while, which was no mean feat! I will be raising a glass tonight, and dusting off the old Roses songbook. RIP Mr Mountfield
  11. Atelier Z 2 Band preamp. 4 pots, Volume Volume Bass Treble. Got for a project, but never uses. UK postage included
  12. The best bass speaker known to humanity!!
  13. Yup, humping the Bassman rig around is a bugger. I used to run my 135 with a Bassman vertical 2x15 cab, but it could fart out. I glued & screwed all the seems to full lengths of 1x2 and braced the baffle to the back panel with three lengtts of 2x2; this made a huge difference.... no farting and tone to die for; but it took two to move it! Even my 1x15 and that heavy head is getting a bit much to lump about now; hence the likely move to modern gear, and I probably don't want to even try to recreate that Bassman tone, as I think I will only be disappointed and always be thinking of the Bassman. I really like the hifi transparency of the PJB gear and am amazed so far at how well those little 5" neo speakers can hold the bottom end at home, through my PJB BG110 (2x5 and 20w). Luckily I have two very good basses that produce plenty of natural tone, and happy to just hear that. One Q...isn't 4x5" the equivalent of 1x20" or 2x10"?
  14. Met him around the time of the stones reunion, he just mooched in to the shop, we spoke about neck dives on Jack Casady basses. He was lovely. great player and a big hero to many.
  15. I will add the phrase 'It is what it is' I hate myself every time I say it
  16. Big Country, 'Steeltown'. Tony Butler is an absolute monster on this, superb melodic playing and a HUGE tone. And fabulous BVs too. Another guy to file under 'criminally underrated'.
  17. Thanks. It is indeed possible to turn the speaker sim off on the VTDI, but I guess I'm looking for a comparison of the two pedals as standalone - shame I no longer have my VTDI otherwise I could have loaned it to you to do a proper A/B, Peter!
  18. Men I Trust: Oncle Jazz Palm muted goodness, melodic lines, high in the mix, nice dreampop textures, a lucky find 🥰 The Poll Winners: The Poll Winners Ride Again Proper jazz, Ray Brown on bass, beautiful playing, Barney Kessel on guitar, any of their music is incredible 😍
  19. Today
  20. Off the bat, the VT’s speaker emulation is that of the 8x10. A lot of the B15 character is from the ported, baffled 15” cab so I expect there’ll be quite a noticeable difference there. If you can turn the speaker emulation off and run through an external IR, that’ll likely get closer.
  21. My heart goes out to his 2 young lads. Their dad was an important player.
  22. Sad to hear this, RIP Mani and condolences to his family and friends.
  23. MY 1987 CHERRY-RED JAYDEE MARK KING SERIES 2 I purchased this bass from the U.K. off of eBay 20 years ago. It had a major issue on the fingerboard as there was a high spot at the fourth fret making everything below those frets unplayable. I had a trusted guitar luthier friend of mine pull out all the frets, re-plane the fretboard level again, and then re-fret the bass. Problem solved. I also purchased new parts from John Diggins including all-new gold hardware and a pair of his hand-made humbucker pickups. After all that, the bass was almost excellent. The biggest problem is that since it has the tradition control-cavity sized circuit board, you have to remove the entire circuit board to access the pots just to clean them. (If I were Jaydee, I would have redesigned this particular circuit board so that it incorporated drilled access holes through the circuit board that lined up over the back of the pots to get a long spray nozzle tube so that you can spray contact cleaner without having to remove the entire board..........just a thought.)
  24. What amp did you use this with, and how well does it handle a low B? I'm up Hungerford way, we could meet in the middle? (about an hour each). Looks gorgeous.
  25. Exactly thanks. Two Origin pedals under one hood on the highly regarded Sansamp pedal, which is often available for around £150 used. So, back to my question of whether this is a material step up over the much loved VT Bass DI? Look forward to an unbiased A/B of the two in due course.
  26. Hey @MarkBuffaloStokes. I know it's almost a year later, but I wonder if your amp is still available? Unlikely, I know..
