I'm in the hefty discount/return camp here. The marking you have shown, and your description of the electrics are indicative of an instrument that should never have been sent out. Maybe send a link to this thread with your next response. For me, and many others here, good customer service is proven when things go wrong. An acceptable outcome here can enhance the luthier's standing. Not doing so would pretty much certainly lead to a (virtual) boycott of their business. Good luck.

Sell the pedals you've got and get a 2nd hand HX stomp. They seem to be about £300 just now. Ok, slightly more money, but you'd be sorted for life for a bass set up, guitar set up, and a general effects unit. Or a tonex one brand new. that would give the same functionality as to what your potential pedal board could do.

I've bought and/or ordered dozens of luthier made instruments that have always been top notch quality and the thing you received is not even to the standard of nowadays low end Chinese made instruments... 🤦🏻😳 So stop that Teletubbies reaction @N64Lover, name that pseudo luthier (whoever he is, he doesn't deserve to be called that way), send the bass back and ask for a full refund. Period.

There was some interest in this becoming a thread after the concept was mentioned in the post your pedalboard thread, so here it is! During a sleepless night this week, I decided it’d be a ‘fun’ exercise to list every pedal I’ve ever owned. I started with memory, then scoured photos on BC, Talkbass, studio sessions, gigs etc to find all the various pedalboards I ever assembled. It wasn’t that much fun… but I thought it might actually be useful? How? Well, a list of pedals that BC’ers have owned and can give first hand experience on ‘could’ be a valuable resource for others considering buying those pedals. Of course, it’s also a painful reminder of how much GAS can cost. Pros and cons, and all that. But I've purchased loads of pedals blind, and sometimes posting a "has anyone tried" thread gets no feedback... so maybe having a place to search, find an owner (or former owner) and drop them a PM, might be cool. Maybe. So, here it is! To include an item on your list, I’d suggest you need to have actually owned it. So exclude stuff you tried or borrowed. You bought it, traded for it, or in some capacity decided it was an item you wanted to own. Of course, post what you want, this is the internet, but those are the rules I applied! I’ll drop my list in the first post. If you do add your own post here, please try to keep the post updated by editing it rather than posting another list each time you buy a few pedals. I suspect this thread could have a lot of very long posts in it, and that might just keep things a bit tidier - thanks!

If you already have the tuner and DI, you could probably do worse than the combo of an LMB3 and an EHX Bass Soul Food, which is the pairing I use. I'd say @Homatron's estimate of £60 is probably a bit on the high side for the LMB3. I got mine in mint boxed condition for £40 a few years ago, and there always seem to be a few kicking around. The Soul Food is a little more rare, but they show up on here from time to time.

Cant recommend the EBS Microbass 3 highly enough. DI (2), tuner, comp and second drive channel.

Are you sure that the track is not 'private'..? It doesn't show up, for me.

Speaking as someone who finishes instruments in a plastic greenhouse in my garden, using spray cans I buy from the local DIY shop – that's not an acceptable standard of fit and finish for a pro-level instrument. The discoloration on the binding isn't great, but forgivable, likewise even the light chipping around the neck pocket, but those tool marks in the finish? No. Even making an instrument for myself, I think would have probably been a do-over.

I’d be very unhappy with those faults, totally not on at any price, but especially at the sum quoted.

Thank you for your opinions so far...I am too easy going with such things sometimes and the validation is appreciated. I have not named the builder yet because I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger and have only heard good things about his work, so this really seems to be an anomaly. Once all is resolved I will consider sharing the details. On the positive side it does play well and sounds good despite the issues.
