Just in case anyone needs to source a Sire neck
bass_dinger replied to rainbowreality's topic in Repairs and Technical
It's at times like this, that basschat needs a "wow" response icon. That is almost a nominal fee, or £25 for administration and the neck is free. "Thanks for buying a Sire. We are committed to providing you with ongoing support for your instrument." -
Greenboy Crazy 88 (by Tricky Audio)
Happy Jack replied to Happy Jack's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Basschat first got interested in these over 10 years ago - I blame @Clarky It was that thread that led to me ordering a matching Crazy 88 from Guy Trigg (who seems to be no longer a Member here): https://www.facebook.com/trickyaudio/?locale=en_GB He was/is building them under licence from Greenboy in the USA: https://www.greenboy.us/ https://www.greenboy.us/cabs/view.php?model=Crazy88 Just to confirm those dimensions in metric: H 57cm x W 27cm x D 35cm, Weight 12.5Kg The cab is 4 Ohms. -

Happy Jack's Great Exotic Sale continues with this quite remarkable pedal. How to describe what it does? Best read this: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/audio-sprockets-tonedexter That review is for the original ToneDexter which is what I am selling. Original packaging, power supply & manual, as you can see. By its very nature, this isn't a pedal that gets chucked into gig bags and knocked about at gigs, so this is in pristine condition. If there's a mark on it, then I can't find it. Smaller than you'd think, too. You can't buy these new any more, but the V2 replacement is this one: https://www.andertons.co.uk/audio-sprockets-tonedexter-2-acoustic-guitar-preamp/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=surfaces&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20736322037&gbraid=0AAAAADujoUrZPlhasp7Z7MDPcIjO7Cnyt&gclid=Cj0KCQjwh5vFBhCyARIsAHBx2wzoSIwW07QUzI0kxlO4PRfLLAuySRBXjVY8ZKQoc6XWvrMM3LVfcRcaArDKEALw_wcB I used this a lot when I was gigging a Zeller ply bass and a Kolstein Busetto, both of those with utterly gorgeous tone, alongside my custom-built Ali-Kat aluminium bass ... which looks astonishing but can't even begin to compete on tone. These days, I no longer actually own a traditional DB of any sort () so the ToneDexter is getting very little use.

My eye (yes, I have two. Don't worry...) was caught by the cool looking lever at the top of the bridge - does this amazingly manly bass have a lever that deploys the string mutes? Bet MusicMan wish they'd thought of that before adding those fiddly tiny metal round screws under the bridges of Classic Stingrays. Seriously impressed by the intonation calibration markings on the bridge as well. If Bang & Olufsen made basses, they would make basses like this. -
I see guitarists playing Blackstar amps almost as often as I see bass players using Mark Bass.

Video shoot for a promo for one of the cover bands. We were only doing snippets of 4 songs but it still a full day of filming. -

Hi @DylanDavid, and welcome. Perhaps you can show us some photos of the string height above the fretboard, so that the bass experts here can give you advice. While you are making those photographs and waiting for help, there is no need touch the truss rod yet.

While I agree it is a great Reggae bass tone the reason I said it is the perfect bass tone is It would fit in so many styles. Clean, warm, sits in the mix beautifully. I'd happily try to emulate that in my Americana band! And yes, although not yours on Reggaebasses level of expertise, it does have Robbie's fingerprints all over it 👍

Ok, this is a left field option... But... Happy Jack's Tonedexter is in the classifieds. He was kind enough to lend me this a while back before I put in an order for my own. We trained it with my PU (Realist Lifeline), and his Nadine initially, later I trained it with my Remic red, and my cheap T Bone, and I was sufficiently impressed to buy my own. I've also created patches with off bass mics, an SM57, and an SE-X1a, both with good results. I give front of house a direct from the device, and have a through signal to a little combo for monitoring, and I've been really happy with my sound for two years now. Golihur used audio clips from Jack to demonstrate its abilities on YouTube, and it brings it so much closer to that unplugged sound... but louder. https://youtu.be/HjRYQ02doMo?si=_2BgwQfvoctJNjgd

You're right - that is a great Reggae bass tone. Lloyd Park and Robbie Shakespeare and both credited as bass players on that 'chapter 3' album. I'd guess that particular one is a Robbie bassline/tone.

We opened the Swindon Shuffle’s Friday Night at The Castle in Old Town last night. Arriving in good time to see the headliner’s soundcheck, I was immediately taken by the bassists sound. Very dubby. He had his back to me and when he turned around, he was playing with a pick, right up by the bridge! It was a Genz Benz amp and every time I hear one of those, they sound fantastic. We were the first of five bands and I think were given this slot as we’re just a duo. I would be too polite to argue but a few people suggested we should have been higher up the bill. In many respects though, it was one of the better slots. I had my 2008 USA Fender Jazz that was going through my board. Doing as the soundman wanted, he had me go through the Genz Benz amp and it sounded great. We did an all original set with the keys / drums on the iPad. Some soundmen struggle, with this set up but the guy last night clearly knew his way around the desk and the sound both on and off stage was glorious. We let the music do the talking but still had a bit of banter with the audience. We held the audience throughout our 30 minute set, something some of the other acts didn’t manage. Introducing two new songs and a few favourites, the time flew. At the end, I thanked everyone, only for the track to loop and start up again. I quickly stopped it and said “So sorry, you didn’t ask for an encore!” which I think endeared us further. I thought we played well. My lead vocals (I am not the main singer) are definitely gaining confidence and I am falling in love with my Jazz bass all over. A great night.
