King Tut started following Which Jazz bass?
-
What was flaky about the early 2000s ones? I had a beautiful sunburst jazz with a maple board that I’ve regretted selling ever since. From what I remember they were cracking instruments with the graphite reinforced necks and lovely fit and finish. I’m not being defensive here, but genuinely interested 😎

To all Sandberg fans, just checked out Guitar Village website and they’ve got some very nice Sandbergs in stock, including some short-scales. Please buy them as I don’t need another but can do without the temptation.

So last week I used this bass at band practice and noticed that the D & G were lacking in depth, though the volume was there. After reading on here that a few had found this too it looked like the stock strings - 40-100 steel rounds - might have been the issue. So I bought a set of 45-100 D’Addario Chromes, however this didn’t work as was reminded that I just don’t like flats. Next step, a set of D’Addario 45-100 XLs, and I think this has solved it, there’s just much more tone and depth to them, with the added bonus of them being so nice to play, I’d almost forgotten how good D’Addario rounds feel when playing. Another added bonus is I’ve not needed to change the setup, though may need to adjust intonation, will check this out over the Xmas break.

I have only just found this thread and it is timely. In February I will be hosting an open mic night for the first time. HELP! -

Surprised the could hear the bass player on stage without only 2 CTM300s and 8x10 stacks! -
While I'm listening to Liv Warfield, this is her absolutely knocking Ann Wilson out of the park (no mean feat in itself) in Nuno Bettencourt's bar band...

Her husband is Peter Bullick who plays lead guitar in her band, at the time of this video, he was also the lead guitarist in Paul Rogers Free Spirit Band, Deborah’s band were the support to the Free Spirit Band tour in 2017, I managed to see them at Leicester De Montfort Hall. This clip was from the New Theatre in Oxford, part of that 2017 tour when Johnson and Plant joined Rogers for this track. -

What a beautiful bass, congrats and Merry Christmas

I'll see your Raye and Raise you Liv Warfield with the NPG Hornz... 😀

JD Blair started following Dave Gladden fretless
-
I've just bought a Dave Gladden bass which seems to play well with a mighty sound. Apparently made in 1987, in a metallic pink, it has been gigged and has some wear marks, but otherwise in good condition. It's very difficult to get information through.

I wouldn’t discount professional counselling. Yes it costs money but 4-6 sessions can really help. (Disclaimer, I’m training to be a counsellor but speak for persona experience.) Sometimes having a space to share ca be really positive.

Thanks. As it's a separate signal from each board, no issues with phase, so the XLR summing box Stofferson mentioned above seems sensible. As the signals cannot have their levels set at the desk, you will need a way to set the levels from your pedal boards. Presumably there is a way to set the output level on one or both boards, but if not, the Sonicake Portal seems like a good option.

In case you didn’t know (many already do), I highly highly recommend putting “Thrust Bearings” onto your tuning screws….. it massively improves the tuning accuracy and ease of use. Man already know, but in case you don’t, it cost a couple of quid, and is a game changer.

Even though I've now sold my gig rig and spare amp, I feel a bit reluctant to sell this bag, as it took me a lot of searching to track down at the time. A great, nicely padded bag. I used it for a few years but it's still in very good condition. All of the zips function as they should, there are no rips and as can be seen in the photos, very little wear. £35 collected. If you want it posted, then I estimate that it will be an additional £7-£8.

Cool little phaser pedal from the JHS budget line, was on my board for the last 8 months or so but I just prefer the more simple Phase 90 for my use, the less knobs the less chance of me fiddling during gigs! It can pull off the Phase 90 vibe and also do much more extreme sounds with the feedback knob switched on. Pretty much as new except having Velcro on the bottom, with the original box and bits and pieces. Price includes UK postage, will knock £5 off for local collection

Peterson StroboStomp Mini £90 posted https://www.petersontuners.com/products/stroboStompMini/ Accurate, compact tuner with high-def LCD strobe display and top-mount jack sockets. N.B. In the photos, in the top-left corner of the screen: that's the protective film that I never removed starting to come off, not a scratch/mark etc. My feedback thread: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/159971-feedback-for-jrixn1/

The bass came with rounds which sounded great but I do love LaBella flats on an ebony board. New set arrived today so on they went and set up. Everything I wanted from this instrument and more. Delicious, fat, warm tone from it. One happy chappy. So you see, Santa does exist after all.

Hi all, Selling my MXR M76 Studio Compressor, which is identical to the MXR M87 Bass Compressor on the inside (confirmed by MXR who chose to kind of "rebrand" the M87 for people -guitarists- who loved the M87 on guitar but didn't want to have "BASS" on their pedal). A tried and tested compressor that works great, simple to use with LED's showing you how much the pedal is compressing. It is in good condition, currently attached to my pedalboard with velcro. I will provide the box too. Happy to ship across the UK for £5. Thank you

Assuming that a bass can be set up for the action that you favour, and the frets don't cut your fingers to ribbons, neck width and profile would be the most significant factors, with body shape and balance also coming into it. Playability is a very personal thing though. I like basses with quite slim shallow necks, so my (expensive by my measure) Seis are great, but my Squier MVM Jazz 5 (cheap), Ray5 (cheap), and Ibanez SRF705 (mid-range) aren't far behind, and my Warwick Thumb 5 (expensive) is a bit behind them and my Antoniotsai dragon bass (cheap) is their equal. Precision 5s and fatneck Warwicks are right out. I think my Ibanez EHB1265MS (expensive) and Cort Space 5 (mid-range) are pretty much equivalent for playability. But other people love baseball bat necks and dislike slim necks, so a Squier Precision 5 would suit them better than a Sei 5.
