  4. After much experimentation over the last few months, I have now settled on my preferred strings for each of my basses, so these unused sets are all up for sale. All prices are posted per set, but happy to combine and discount for multiple purchases. GHS Pressurewound (39.25" winding and custom made to fit Dingwall basses and imported from the US) - £40 3 x Newtone Platinum nickel roundwounds on round cores - (2 x 37" and 1 x 38" ball end to taper) - £35 2 x GHS Brite Flat groundwounds (38" ball end to taper) - £38 1 x Elites Groundwounds (38" apart from the B, which is 37.25" I think) - £30 Thanks for looking.
  5. Almost all my gigs are fly aways in various EU countries. I always check my bass into the hold in a SKB iSeries case. If you travel with your instrument as baggage then no ATA carnet is required. If your instrument travels unaccompanied, as freight, then an ATA carnet is required.
  6. Smoothhound wireless system, 2.4GHz band. Works perfectly, comes boxed with PSU inside and instructions. A bit more sophisticated than the plug-n-play stuff, but just as easy to use. I'll post at cost (less than a fiver I'd expect) or pickup from Uxbridge area
  7. Probably inviting injuries to aging Northern Soul fans but does anybody have "Footsie" on their setlist??
  8. I think you are talking about the rectifier tube that could be replaced by a diodes bridge put in a plug-in device. There is one of the brand you mentioned @Dood .
  9. Here's the deal on Sovtek and Chinese tubes: In the West military devices, like radar and communications, converted to SS early on, being much lighter than those powered by tubes. The USSR didn't have the SS tech that the West did, so they stayed with tubes much longer. Tubes also had the advantage of being immune to electromagnetic pulse, which fries SS devices. That was a concern during the Cold War. Without the demand for tubes for the military and civilian devices other than musical instrument amps, and because making tubes is environmentally a problem, Western tube sources disappeared. Since Soviet gear still used them, and they didn't care about environmental issues, tube suppliers in the Soviet bloc remained. Musical instrument amps remain as the #1 users of tubes, most of which still come from Russia, China and Slovakia. Those that are still made in the West are much more expensive, as their manufacturers have to adhere to environmental regulations that pretty much don't exist in Russia et al.
  10. My local deliverer is great. But Evri received a banjo skin for me on 22 April and it was 'in transit' on 24 and status hasn't changed since. I hadn't realised it was so delayed. Presumably they lost it, I have contacted the seller.
  11. Moving on this great, really lightweight, 15 inch speaker cab with horn. Loud and pairs nicely with a small amp - for example my Trace Elliott Elf which is also up for sale. You get the full power of the amp with it being 4ohm. All working correctly. Thanks, Alex

  13. My preference is for soundcheck mainly to get monitor levels sorted, I hate seeing bands go, after every song “I need more attack in the upper mids in the outer quadrants of the snare drum” stuff, to me either sort it at a soundcheck or live with it. Which leads me to, my current band don’t like soundchecks, so it’s usually go on, live with it and know that the sound engineer will do their best.
  14. Bought brand new back in December 2023, features all the bells and whistles you’d expect from the GK stable - 4 band EQ, contour switch (for scooped mids) and boost switch. I’ve used it a fair bit this year, but the only issue with it is something was dropped on it at some point, denting one of the rear corners. Doesn’t affect the sound or the structure of the casing, so otherwise it is in great condition. It has recessed side handles and casters attached which are easily removed, and comes with a custom made padded cover made by HotCovers. These retail for around £1100 new (without the cover), looking to shift it pretty rapidly as I have gigs pending, so the asking price is £700. I am open to sensible offers…. Selling because it’s too big for my needs. Located on the Isle of Wight, but can meet at any of our ferry ports (Portsmouth/Southampton/Lymington/Southsea) for collection. I can also personally deliver for an additional £50 to cover my ferry fare, within a sensible distance, London or an equivalent location distance wise would probably be my limit. Thanks for looking. 😊
  15. I wonder if that is where the quote about ensuring that you make every note count comes from? ha ha!
  16. Second option, but more as a line check, which should be more than enough, except if the band is an association of puerile egos...
  17. I've seen their social media. Fair play to them, that is a LOT of work. I wouldn't personally bother hahahaa.
  18. Love the way they play and move on up the road. It was in New Orleans I realised the purpose of the bass solo in the penultimate song. It’s to let the guitarist pass round the bar with the tip jar😂 Now, back on topic…
  19. And for that there's this:
  20. Ok, cool, mistaken I am, there was as you say, definitely a "tube replacement" or two out there for the guitar market though. It willl come to me.. in time! I don't have the old pile of magazines to refer to anymore. ha ha! Brands like Sovtek and the like did dabble with creating SS tubes for drop in replacements maybe for milspec/health devices, but I suspect as the cost of manufacure of solidstate hardware in general came down, there was little point in pursuing them.
  21. I have done many gigs with 4 or 5 originals bands playing the same stage on the same evening, where it is often impossible for all the bands to do a full soundcheck because of time limitations. Often the choice is made to only soundcheck the band that uses the most inputs on the mixing desk. The previous band I was in usually played without amps and cabs on stage. We had two guitarists with stereo setups, my bass (single XLR), a backing track with backing vocals and synths and a pretty basic drum kit with kick, snare, 4 toms, hi-hat and just a few cymbals. We brought our own monitoring rack that had everything except the drums plugged into it, and from there to front of house. The only drawback to that was the XLRs for the other bands still had to go to their gear and mics. We were often complimented for being so easy to mix and to balance well. Therefore we weren't afraid to play without a soundcheck, a linecheck would often suffice and well within the first 30 seconds of the first song everything would be fine. We did prefer to do a full soundcheck though - and we always tried to be disciplined, without unnecessary noodling.
  22. Gigging in a pub? Soundcheck 'till you're happy. Gigging in a ticketed venue? Be done and dusted before they let people in. ...IMO, of course.
  23. Those are tube conversion sockets, allowing the use of a tube other than the original. https://www.tubedepot.com/t/other-stuff/yellow-jackets?srsltid=AfmBOorm7EPnxQenwo22TciGXI6p0wev-H5TymKMmUU23zzT-vgP2Z51 I vaguely recall a SS tube replacement existed back in the day, but if it had been successful it would still exist. There was a big scramble for a SS tube replacement when most tube sources went out of business in the 70s-80s. Nothing much ever came of it.
  24. We always do part of our soundcheck with the PA off. This gives us a better idea of what the onstage mix is like as there isn't sound bouncing off the walls of the emptyish auditorium.
  25. Irrational? I have been extolling the virtues of single 10s and 12s for some time but can I get rid of that feeling that I need a second to stack? It would mean that I did not need to bend to adjust my amp but is that worth another outlay of £700-900? Bass cab therapy anyone?
  26. Hey peeps, Hope everyone is good. I’m looking at both the laney digbeth head and the tone hammer. I wondered if anyone has used both and how they compare. Can’t fined a comparison. I’ve played through a tonehammer and I like it. Isn’t any stores close to try the laney digbeth. I have a pbass and play finger style funk, r&b,mostly. Melodic melody jazz stuff with chords also. I don’t slap. Cheers
