  3. Latest album from leading Americana singer-songwriter. New, sealed, £9 posted.
  4. Half of that extra loud is sucked up with modern drivers being half as sensitive as the vintage ones old BMP was using with his 50w amp.
  5. For anyone who hasn’t heard this, it’s superb, good luck mickey
  6. Very well put together US-published book of in-depth interviews with guitarists based on a TV documentary. Refreshingly, not all are the usual suspects. Rarely seen here. 300 pages, very good condition. £13 posted UK. Now just £10
  7. The Reprise Years - his five 70s studio albums plus live at the Albert Hall and a disc of rarities. New, still sealed and unplayed, this is the definitive history of a major American songwriter. £35 posted UK - less than half retail price.
  8. Congrats George! Looks lovely Does your preamp have a weak bass boost? I find I have to boost the bass on mine nearly all the way, while treble is merely a smidge over the centre detent.
  9. According to the general rule*, 500W is twice as loud as 50W. (*all other things being equal)
  10. Got mine today, The setup was a bit of a mess out the box, went to tune up, the A string just gave up, I thought the tuner mech had given up at first, but restrung the bass no problem, the saddles were all over the place, you have to physically have to press them down with your finger the first time you adjust them, fitted the thrust washers today, they do a fantastic job, well worth doing, Just had to adjust the neck the action was a bit high from the factory set up !! I went over all the screws nuts etc make sure everything was tight, construction seems very good, excellent wood choices, 7 ply neck should be pretty solid I am sure, hope the string clamp at the top holds up over time it is basically a big grub screw directly over the string, after all that, I must say it is a lovely bass to play it balances so well , I fitted strap locks, playability is excellent, I basically have the action where I want it , I tried it through a few different pre amps, it actually sounded fantastic through Head Rush MX5 , I downloaded some custom bass presets for that unit and wow, really nice sound just enough grunt behind the preamp models to do the job, very pleased with that , I also tried it through a Dark glass alpha /omega going into a dug Pinnick tech 21 preamp, that again was fantastic, a bit more growl from the bass with that setup, I love playing this bass it sounds very decent, I am normally a Ric/Spector player, for the money it is awesome, solid once set up.
  11. I had a bit of a revelation at my uncle's funeral last year that sometimes when someone dies, along with the grief there can also be a genuine celebration of a life well lived, someone who played the game and won. I think Ozzy definitely falls into that category.
  12. I was never a Sabbath fan as I'm not a fan of that genre of music particularly, but I totally respect their unique talent and sound, and their massive contribution to rock and roll. That said, I liked Ozzy a lot as a frontman ; he just had something about him that connected and reached out to you. Charisma and authenticity, I guess... RIP, Mr Sabbath.
  13. Sticking with the theme of fretless Rays… I met @bernard_beard last night to buy one - perfect deal from start to finish - and it’s clear Mark is one of the good guys Thanks Mark - the bass is excellent.
  14. More peace, love and harmony. Maaaaan. It does look great, though!
  15. You do know that they label the controls the other way these days, yes?
  16. I have an ampeg V4B incoming which I will use on gigs when I don't have to supply PA I's beena long time since I gigged on bass, with valves (Marshall superbass 50, many many moons ago)
  17. I’ve got one of these. I take it as a spare to double bass gigs. It’s great!
  18. I can lend you a butter knife and you could go at it like Jaco, if you like.

  20. IME it is always easier to hear myself if at least one of the speakers is pointing at my ears rather than my knees or my groin. That means either mounting the combo on a tilt-back stand or putting at least one other cab underneath it. Both of those things place top mounted controls (for me at least) in a position that is both difficult to see and reach. The original reasoning behind top-mounted controls is that the amps would be placed on the floor in front of the musicians. Not only were the controls on top but labels were orientated so that they read the right way up when viewed from the back. Since this placement hasn't been regularly used since the early 50s it makes little sense to continue building amps this way.
  21. The mute kit is on it's way from Bass Direct as we speak...
  22. if you're gonna feel dirty, a telecaster makes it worth it
  23. As so often happens with high-profile people perceived by the wider public as hedonists, effectively Ozzy became a stuntman for excess and intoxication. I think a lot of the shock about his passing is based on the common assumption that, despite his obvious frailty, he was more robust than ordinary mortal men. By the time of his death Ozzy and Sabbath were household names and fully embraced by the mainstream media, but I remember when Ozzy and Sabbath were a cult band and hardly ever featured on TV ect in Britain. That was the real Black Sabbath and the source of their legend. In an age where rock stars could get away with behaving badly, Sabbath were a bit more dangerous than most, albeit that they were mostly dangerous to themselves. Never mind The Osbournes, I wish someone had made a reality show about Ozzy's life back in those days. It would've been the most interesting documentary ever.
  24. That's the magic of Wenge.
