Pleasure. I like the look of that Yamaha. Their PA stuff is excellent these days. They bought out Nexo, a high-end PA brand, a few years back and they've obviously incorporated the tech' into their own stuff.

A bit of wet sanding then 6 more layers of lacquer. Getting flatter, but I was a bit cautious with the sanding. More tomorrow.

I found the body and neck of a Symphonic bass in a skip many years ago. Gave it to a repairer pal who fixed it up and sold it. I wonder if I should have kept it. Probably collectable by now. Love the photo - the good old days of miming to the record. No attempt to make it look live. No cables to the instruments and not a mic' in sight.

That's the dodgiest jack-shït web page I've ever seen. More red flags than the battleship potemkin. Lots of characters from non-latin fonts to greak search engines. Don't go there and if you do, don't click anything. It's a honeypot targeting the gullible. Mods... please remove the link.

Norris started following Gravity SP5522 Stands

My lights have lasted for ages. However I've just had to order the third pair of stands for them! Hopefully the Gravity stands will last a bit longer. I was hoping to get some lightweight aluminium stands but they won't extend high enough for lights, so I had to have taller steel ones - should be more stable anyway. I'll let you know how they go. Anyone got any opinions on Gravity stands? My guitarist bought a mic stand recently and that seems quite good quality. I'll stick with my K&M though - it's standing up well (geddit?! 😁) to regular gigging.

Fender Rumble Bass Combos - Advice Please
Stub Mandrel replied to Cornwall Steve's topic in Amps and Cabs
I remember buying my Flea Jazz. I was tryinh it out along with some modern jazz basses. I couldn't get a tone I liked, the guy at the shop said you prefer a more traditional sound? He plugged me into a rumble 100 and lo! There was the sound I wanted. -
I just heard back from a bass player friend who has a PhD is electronic engineering, also happens to know Mark Gooday a little. He said to return it. Should not be that way and could be simple or expensive to fix. I emailed the big online seller and they said they would send a free return label. So my great deal kind of went out the window. Bummed about that. Might ask if they have a tech in the area as I would really like to keep it. Such is life. I appreciate all the help and advise. If something changes, I'll update.

I've had my lead for quite some time now and it's done a lot of gigs... and the jacks are still gold 😁

Rob Fleet - Adam Clayton-esque P Bass Build - Purple Flake!

Rob was true to his word and delivered the bass exactly on time so I could put it all together, with help from Julian Mullen, and gig it the same day! IMG_1990.mov -

Everyone is going to be rooting for you. Just getting up and being there is an achievement everyone will appreciate. The moment you start playing you will be too absorbed in the moment to worry. Nerves and excitement are not negative emotions they prepare you. Afterwards you'll wonder why you worried and be grateful for having such a special opportunity.

All this talk of the Spark has made me realise how lacking the drive is in my EBS Microbass 3. Love the clean sound, and it can get a bit warm if pushed, but cant get the drive sounding as i want it. it’s warm, but loses clarity.

Small "Hifi" amp head recommendations sought!
Linus27 replied to andyhaines's topic in Amps and Cabs
@andyhaines Tested my Gnome tonight and I can confirm that the fan is silent .... sort off. The fan noise is silent, no wooshy noise etc. The only thing you can hear is the sound of a component moving but it's so minimal that you can only hear it if you put your ear right next to the amp. At any other time it is silent and like I say, no fan noise in the traditional sense. -

I would concur the TE-1200 and Monza sound fabulous, although I think of the Trace as a small/mid sized head (its not a micro/mini in any sense). The Trace is really quite clean (doesn't overdrive like a valve or hybrid head) but sounds superb. It is not, as noted above, a cheap head and there are many other alternatives with more Watts for your pennies. Disclosure: I have only used at home so far, so haven't tested volume capabilities with a loud band (first rehearsal in a week or so's time)

The easiest way to prove if you have a noisy tube is to make sure the valve drive plus button is switched off, ie all the way out. Plug your bass in and you will be bypassing the tube function with the valve drive button out. If you still hear a buzz/hum then its not the tube that's causing it. FYI, ABM's like the EVO IV will be quiet with no instrument plugged. The input jack has a switched signal contact to ground with nothing plugged in. In general most ABM's should be quiet at idle with an instrument connected, and not buzz or hum if they are in good condition. If you have only just bought the amp, and the noise persists and it doesnt appear to be the tube, might be worth returning it or taking a chance and asking a Tech to look at it for you. It could be something simple, like a loose ground screw or ribbon cable plug if its been jiggled about in a courier truck at some point in time. But then again it might be something else that is causing the noises. My own EVO IV is dead silent at idle with a bass plugged in and any ABM I've owned in the past has always been quiet at idle with a bass connected.
