  8. I'm on a course to learn to refret and fret level and general setting up of guitars and basses it's 3 days long I've refretted a squier strat and fret levelled a couple of my basses including a Harley Benton PB50 One of my bitsa P basses didn't need doing but one has been quite a problem as the neck won't truss dead straight (this is fairly common apparently) Final fret polish and set up this morning, so we'll see how it turns out It's been great. I've learned a lot of things but also talking to and watching the other students with their instruments and problems They do full build courses and all sorts My luthier is in his 70s and is retiring so I wanted to know how to fret level just in case I need to I might go back for a custom build course (apparently a lot of people do)

  11. How do you find the pre in the z3 vs the z7. Can you cut the treble on the z3 or is it boost only?

  17. Tjords? What's that about?
  18. Looks like Imgur have withdrawn their services in the UK thanks to the Online "Safety" Act, so if you don't already have these images in your browser cache they show up as a big purple "content not viewable in your region" rectangle.
  19. OK, when I used a USB-C to USB-C cable (I've three USB-C ports) Windows would not recognize it. Tried all sorts of USB-C to USB-C (including Thunderbolt 4). But, a USB-C to USB 3.1 cable into a USB 3.1 port worked! Who knew? P.S. Device Manager lists it as >Sound, Video and Game Controllers>USB audio CODEC. Now to roll the tubes...
  20. https://www.rolls.com/product/SX21 Lovely product.
  21. Thanks again, both are nice
  22. REDUCED! NOW £155! Here’s my 1990 green label CE-2, in great condition. It makes awesome chorus sounds, and will continue to do so far longer than any plug in (ooh, controversial! 😂). I’ll even post it within the UK for free! I must be mad! Cheers!
  23. Echo what's said above, great transaction, friendly guy, totally recommended, 5 star, thanks Rod.
  24. Where does it show up in Windows Device Manager, and what is it called?
  25. I did buy this second hand. No manual was present, and none on the Ashdown site (and none found on the internet). Ashdown did get back to me and suggested a solid state preamp (IMG Stage Line MPA-102). It's from Germany and I'm in the US. I tried an ART Tube MP and it was awful. Now using a Rodyweil R003 Microphone Preamp Booster (solid state) and it sounds much better. BTW, I opened up the unit to find a JJ ECC81 in V1, but two identical unlabelled long-plate tubes in V2 and V3. I'm not sure if there was a swap made. I've got a set of all three JJ's (ECC81, ECC82 and ECC83) coming in and will see if that makes any improvement. I will re-try the USB-C with a Thunderbolt 4 cable and will try the Windows Audio setting.
  26. Ok another update:. The necks are in QC having some visual things sorted out before I recieve them. Walman has graciously and kindly offered to recieve a full shipment (if thats what ends up being most cost effective) this one time, and make sure each of you get the neck you have ordered. I did estimate 390RMB (excluding duties) for a shipment up to 20kg but for a final cost I need to give the logistics company final weight and volume and see if we are over the minimum (which seems unlikely)and how much extra that would cost. Timing wise, hopefully I will have the necks early to middle of next week because the extra painting i have asked for needs time to dry and we are just coming out of a week long public holiday. Assuming there are no further QC issues that need necks to be returned for further work, then I'll weigh and send the info to the shipping company and update everyone on the final shipping cost. At that point we will all know the final balance and I will check if prepaid duty shipping is available. If any of you are happy to pay the £40 for shipping an individual neck then I can send the neck straight to you. It will mean the necks in the bulk shipment might cost a little more.

  28. I have both a Z3-5 and Z7-5. I no longer have an EBMM Stingray 5, I have the Ray35 which isn't that different from the 'real thing' (and the 4-string EBMM Stingray that was my main bass for over a decade). My comparisons are based on that specific sample of basses, and my opinion is just that: like, my opinion, maaan. The Sires' built is more than decent. Their necks are just beautiful. The Z7 is the winner in terms of looks and feel. The neck of the Z3 wasn't as well finished, but this is not so much to say the Z3 was bad, rather that the Z7 was superb. I think it would be very difficult to match the general build quality of an EBMM instrument. But they also cost quite a lot more, and these do not feel 'budget' at all (especially the Z7). Both can sound very Stingray-like, with the Z3 closer than the Z7, to these ears o'mine. I've been using mostly the Z3 live, since I bought it.
