Please help me setup my Barefaced Super Compact tone
Stofferson replied to Big_Sam's topic in Amps and Cabs
Nice one, get the sound you want out the cab it's gonna be 98 percent there going out your Di, any other cab your gonna be compensating for that baked in tone, sound great in stage, but Di feed is not gonna be what you sound like. Persevere, as it took me some doing and I have super compacts with tweeters, although I have a medium ISH pedal board and I love my sansamp! -

Agreed on all counts - I paid [used] over £900 for my Aubergine one, and yes, they are excellent basses. There's something about the American Performer. I've got the Competition Burgundy Vintera II as well and nice bass though it is, the Am.Perf is genuinely a step above in both playability and quality. Definitely one of my go-to basses. Best of luck with the sale, Davy.

There are other kinds of guitard? 🤔 who knew ?

Cheers, I’ve used Jon on a couple of jobs before and he’s the only guy I’d trust on a pricey bass.

Just back from the Audio Lounge in Glasgow after a gig with the punk band. We were second out of four and went down really well. Quite a small venue - it certainly isn't the Barrowland - but I'm really warming to more intimate spaces. The Stingray acquitted itself well, although it's getting a bit clattery. I think it's going to have to go to Chris McIntyre for him to work his magic. The backline was deffo old skool - SVT plus Workingman 810. Awesome sound and it was great to feel the air hitting the backs of my legs but completely OTT for such a small room. I wasn't complaining though, as for once I had enough oomph to hear myself over our volume 11 guitarist!

I bought this “burgundy “ EB strap from a NZ family music store which is unfortunately closing down I think it’s sort of ok cosmetically

I bought it, Dear Reader the seller was very happy to see it go to a good home and I’ve passed on The Good Word Of basschat it’s not pretty, but it seems to work (quietly) at zoom output level. When the speakon to 6.35 lead arrives I will try it on full throttle from my TC bh250

I've had a couple of J-tones. They are extremely good for the money, but there are also many better pickups out there. I did tend to have more feedback issues with the J-tones, but there were other factors involved too. The input impedance of the Trace might be wrong for the pickup. You could try a buffer/HPF like the Raffery or Fdeck, I bet that would make a big difference. As long as you can hear what you're playing on stage using the combo, then why not run through the PA?
-
For smaller gigs I go direct to our Bose PA but when I play at bluegrass festivals I use my combo amp and DI to the PA and it always seems to work OK. At bluegrass gigs most of the sound guys know what a bass should sound like for bluegrass and are good at setting things up for bass players.

Need to raise a nut slot. Question about the file.
dave_bass5 replied to dave_bass5's topic in Repairs and Technical
Ok, i think ive got it all sorted. Got home from work and put a few drops of superglue in the slot while the kettle was boiling. Left it for an hour and re strung. Perfect!!!. I didnt bother filing anything, it just seemed to work fine without that, and i took the paper out as well. Im going to put some new stings on over the weekend so will have a closer look to see if it does need anymore attention. This will be fine until i can get the nut replaced. Not sure how long the glue will last, but as i dont change strings much im sure it’s not going to wear out anytime soon. Thanks again for all the tips. -

Like a lot of upright bass players I have a David Gage Realist pickup on my bass and play the majority of my upright gigs through a Markbass head and 210 cab. I’m not familiar with the J-tone pickup but I’ve rarely had feedback issues with the Realist. I also regularly play the same bass through a big Ashdown rig with a 6x10 cab with no problems, plus it’s been through a bunch of festival hire rigs (usually Ampeg SVTs and big 8x10/4x10 cabs), again no problem. It always helps to have a bit of distance between the cab and the bass to avoid feedback issues, more so as the volume levels go up. The only times I’ve had an issue have been when I’m right on top of the amp as you mentioned, or when playing a hire bass with a crappy pickup.
