  1. Past hour
  2. All credit to you for keeping it going for him. It's tough to call it a day. Maybe you could move him to more of a cameo/feature? You're good people. It doesn't make you bad people to know when it's time to wind it down or even quit completely. Let him bow out with dignity and head held high. We have a guy that gets up and sings with us occasionally. He's not a great singer by any stretch of the imagination, but the adrenaline of the performance gives him some brief respite from his Parkinsons symptoms. It's difficult to say no when he wants to sing but the situation isn't really suitable.
  3. Speaking of massive pedal boards the Fratellis bassist clearly had one! What do folk reckon he's using to get the funky filter / delay sound at the start of the track and on the verses? He seems to kick just one pedal on to engage the effect.
  4. I do I do I do I do I do. Abber
  5. According to my Vernier it's 44.4mm.
  6. You Don't Know How It Feels - Tom Petty
  7. Nice, lucky lad!
  8. The issue persists when I don't put the finger right on the fret but slightly behind it, so I suppose it's the way I let it go. The concern may stem from the fact that beginner courses don't seem to address this VID_20250813_234612.mp4

    Valeton GP-5

Two days in and I'm happy so far with my GP-5. For comparison, the only pedal I've had in the past 15 years is a Zoom B3. Has anyone got any decent compression working on the GP-5? I have tried the two stock options but aren't happy with either. Maybe it's best to add some other modelling with either?
  10. My Phil Jones Bass C4. It sounds great but even driven by a TE Elf it really isn't good for anything other than 'unplugged' gigs. So it's my home practice rig and fantastic for that.

  12. Bass recorder and piano accordion. The acoustic accordion has the very cool 'Stradella' button board which lays out the bass and chords in 4ths/5ths but just does accordion sounds. I also have a digital piano accordion which can generate bassoon, double bass etc., or drive a MIDI synth. The bass recorder isn't that low in pitch, there are great bass and contra bass which actually get low down.
  13. I agree with this one... my fingers don't enjoy the feel of flats.
  14. It's worth just noodling at first and getting used to playing scales across the full width of the neck. Also try playing songs you know with less movement along the neck. It's quite easy to get lost at first, and muting becomes a fair bit harder. You'll start by incorporating the odd low notes. The more you switch the less you will get 'stuck' in one mindset so don't abandon the 4.
  15. I Can't See My Feelings - Budgie
  16. Thanks. The 4 string version is available now and until the garage phoned to tell me my turbo was dead I was seriously interested. They sound like they function as I would expect. In a good way. Ho hum.
  17. Welcome to Basschat. You'll know this stretch of road then...
  18. That's really tough; I hope you can bring it to an amicable end.
  19. We could blooming well do with some now; the farm is really struggling for water at the moment.
  20. This one - https://www.thomann.co.uk/harley_benton_powerplant_powerbank_mk2.htm It has powered my board for well over 8 hours...
  21. Yoga mat or a karrimat. You can cut a strip off the end and still use it for its intended purpose.
  22. He has sent out two emails saying how good the gig was and how so many people congratulated him at the end. Difficult.
  23. Today
  24. Not had this very long, bought this and a les paul copy to see which I preferred, and the les paul won! Only just though - it's a great instrument. Very playable neck, not heavy, and the neck pickup sounds particularly good. I've modified it slightly - tortoiseshell pickguard and cream covers and knobs. As you can see, I didn't do a very good job of enlarging the pole piece holes to fit the bridge pickup cover. I will include the original white guard, covers and knobs in the sale. Also put Graphtec string trees on. Lovely satin black finish, with the relicing on the back. The fingerboard is either reliced or played in, or both! It's great...! It's from 2012, by the way.
