I have a sire jazz bass that I routed some wood out of for new pickups. I’m considering routing out yet more wood for different pickups. Sooner or later I want to repaint the body and fill the unused cavities and I’m just wondering the best way of doing that. The plan so far is to fill the cavities by gluing in wood blocks, lightly sand most of the body, and completely sand the front, then use car paint spray cans for the refinish. My concern is that over time there might be some join visible on the front if there is wood movement - I’m going for a pickguardless look. Is it worth finding some very thin sheet wood to glue over the front? For example Hobbycraft have sheets that are 1/32 of an inch thick. Does anyone have any experience of refinishing sire bodies? Are they known to be polyurethane? And if so am I right in thinking they can be painted over as long as they’ve been sanded to give the paint something to hold onto? Would this apply to the headstock too - I’d like to match the body colour and I’ve GOT to get rid of that terrible shape…

Just seen an EBMM SUB 5 on Ebay just now,£2,352.72 or best offer. The "lesser" Stingray with the textured body and aluminium pickguard that I've seen go for as low as £550 or thereabouts.

I did the same, still got a couple. Used one last week between my Hartke amp and old 4x10. The orange cable was easy to find in a bag of leads too.

The comments on the Loog are interesting. I am neither a parent nor a music teacher, so these practical considerations had not really occurred to me. Thanks for sharing.

Vintage Bose 802 Series II XLR speaker cable wired to Speakon NL4FX at the amp. I'm going XLR pin 2 (+ve) to Speakon +1 and XLR pin 1 (-ve) to Speakon -1 right? Shouldn't be using +2 and -2 at all.

OP is an edge case. He runs IEM sometimes, but doesn't own a preamp or a DI except for what is aboard the Rumble combo. When going IEM he has no use of the combo speaker, it's so much unwanted noise, but he can't run zero volume without also cutting the DI output to zero. Capiche?

Does this model have the same weird tone control setup that the Canadian Super P has? I had to replace the circuit on mine as I couldn't get on with it.

Version 1 is affected by the gain only but the newer versions are affected by both
