    NBD Bongo 4

Not everybody's cup of tea, but definitely my cup of tea. I love a Bongo. That finish looks like Egyptian Smoke, if I'm not mistaken. The colour scheme on these earlier Bongos was inspired by the available colours for BMW cars at that time in the early-mid 2000's. Makes sense in light of the BMW connection. Anyhow, lovely bass, I hope you have a lot of fun playing it.
  3. Looking to get a beater Pbass and torn between these three. Anyone owned both the player and classic vibe, what are your experiences? 1 and 2 are almost the same price and have no mods, and because it's second hand, I like that it has more mileage and most prolly been setup. Or get the latest player II coz I'm a sucker for maple and blue combination. 1. Squier Precision Fiesta Red Classic Vibe 60s - 2nd hand 2. Fender Player in Tidepool - 2nd hand 3. Fender Player II in Aquatone - bnew
  4. Hi all, I thought it was time I introduced myself, esp as I've been lurking for a few weeks and devouring the wealth of knowledge and information in various threads. I'm AJ (Aubrey) and am based in south Manchester. I've recently rekindled my relationship with all things bass having spent the previous 30+ years without playing so much as a note, so am now in the process of catching up with three decades of evolution. Anyway, a bit about me - I was in a couple of post school bands, mainly garage/rehearsal room outfits in the late 80s/early 90s - we gigged here and there but never with any regularity. The bands ebbed and flowed depending upon university holidays, and eventually dissolved as folk graduated and moved away. Most of our gear was home made (from Maplin kits and the like) and my valve hi-fi enthusiast father was a dab hand at reviving various amps found in junk shops and house clearance sales. So having come from that DIY background I've loved reading about the BassChat and LockDown cab builds, and the various valve amp build diaries. That said, since returning from hiatus I've managed to acquire a few bits and pieces I'd have loved to own back in the day, namely an Aria SB1000 and a couple of 1980s Trace Elliot amps (including a BLX-80 combo - £79 from Cash Converters!) for which my back has not forgiven me.
  5. It's a low power bipolar op-amp I'm using. I'd prefer to use a JFET op-amp but the input capacitance of very low noise parts tends to roll of the high frequencies. That's not really an issue seeing as it's intended for bass use, but I tend to be a bit obsessive about these things! You're right that the thing can't really make up its mind what it is! In part, that's deliberate in attempt to give it as wide appeal as possible. I was never really thinking of this as something you'd use all the time but rather somethng you'd be really glad you had in your gigbag once in a while. The popping is causd by the DC settling at first switch on. I'm also obsessive about preserving the low frequency response, so the time constants are all very long. I definitely could work on that and still be better than a typical FX pedal or bass amp, for that matter. It sounds like I have a bit more work to do and a bit of research into how a typical active DI behaves when it's first plugged in. Thanks for your really helpful feedback - I really appreciate you taking the trouble to pass on your thoughts. Cheers Chris
  6. I have been slowly following along with the beginner's path on Scott's Bass Lessons (slowly bc of long working hours) and having a lot of fun with it, and some of the things I can play now actually sound like songs I know! However, I broke my collarbone last week, and I can't find a way to keep playing without a lot of pain. I'm scared that I will somehow "un-learn" all I've done during the coming period. I have no idea how fast this will heal and I haven't made it to a shoulder specialist yet due to busy hospitals. Anyone else had a similar occurence?
  7. What ate the Chorus and phasers like on here?
  8. Some fine strewtherie there.
  9. Thanks for your thoughts and comments. I know it's impossible for this thing to suit all users, but I am very consciously trying to give it wide appeal. The way I see it, if I was to do a small production run of these, there is no way I could compete price-wise. The bigger the production run, the more competitive it would be, though it's never going to be an inexpensive product. Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to get rich from this but if I was to take it further, I would like to be fairly confident I'd at least cover my costs.
  10. Price drop to £1100 and edited the part-ex’s a little. Si
  11. Yeah DemonFX are pretty well-known for their borderline counterfeiting of well-known pedals. I wouldn’t touch them with a barge-pole, who knows what’s going on under the hood. Some people seems happy with them, but I’ve heard reports of noisy pedals and all sorts of crap-outs you’d expect of such things. YMMV. Si
  12. They'd be too short for an extra long scale. Sorry.
  13. Looks like the original version which sounds a fair bit nicer than the more recent Mk3/Mk4 models!
  14. Today
  15. Why do you say that? Others have sold for more than I’ve advertised.
  16. According to Fender: Compact and lightweight (16 pounds) sealed enclosure with removable grille. Given the size and power chances are it's an inexpensive high Qes driver, so there wouldn't be any point in porting it.
  17. And the last one sold - 9 lovely little things spread out across the world (plus mine). And it's nice to know that they are being enjoyed. I only made more than one of them because there was a minimum where enclosure printing didn't make sense and I wanted to make something visually nice. I said before I would post the gerbers - I could but I wouldn't recommend it actually - the Gorva enclosures aren't cheap, the 9mm pots aren't cheap and small and good quality connectors aren't either! What I would do is buy the Musikding kit of PedalPCB's version here https://www.musikding.de/Curds-and-Whey-Distortion-kit, and build it yourself in a 125b with top jacks (Broughton, Walrus size). Bigger but a lot easier and more forgiving. don't forget to order the knobs! Fuzz dog do a version too called Dirt desert https://shop.pedalparts.co.uk/product/dirtdessert which will fit in a smaller 1590b but with side jacks (MRX size). It's been fun, not sure I'll do another wee batch of things as there's a lot of people doing awesome stuff really well.
  18. That makes the efforts of an individual who cannot be named on here look like lutherie.
  19. Head Rush MX5 Amp modeller, multi effects, etc , basically brand new, not a mark on the unit, complete with power supply and box . Great for bass. Will post pics of actual unit when home . £220 delivered please check out my feedback . my feedback on B.C.
  20. Today’s projects…..walnut control plate for a jazz bass and final oil hand hand before curing and nitro on the lightweight Stingray. The chatoyance on that bit of Paulownia really does shimmer!
  21. £200 delivered superb pedal.
  22. Fortunate Son — Creedence Clearwater Revival
  23. These YouTube "best of" vid's are almost always AI generated rubbish, complete with robot voice-over. I've no doubt they simply parrot manufacturers' sales literature.
  24. Given that it's a very low-powered practice amp with an 8" speaker, does it matter? You couldn't gig with one.
  25. Congratulations JazzyJ! Looks lovely, particularly the 'Pewter' like finish. Being a HH, it should be mighty too. Enjoy!
