Excellent condition (pedal almost ‘as new’, box is a little more beaten) MXR Studio Comp. This is famously EXACTLY the same circuit as the MXR Bass Comp, but with a different enclosure. MXR did this to sell it more effectively to the guitar market. To be fair, I think it looks smarter than the Bass Comp. This is MXR’s take on an 1176 comp I believe. Not much else to say, solid pedal, nice transparent sound, effective compression. Cool. £120 inc UK postage. No trades unless you have a Guild Starfire II in ‘Natural’ or a Sire P5R 5 string in white (+money your way of course 😅). Cheers Si

Remastered doesn't mean its any better

I’m never sure whether it’s a good thing to interfere with stuff retrospectively. There are arguments for leaving stuff as they were - of the time / how the artist wanted it / equipment it was mixed to be played back on etc etc, with the flip side being altering things to try and offset the original recordings being badly recorded & mixed to make them more ‘correct’ and suitable for modern times. Personally I believe unless the originals were really catastrophic then it’s best to let them remain as they were intended, warts and all. -
String tree retainer for a Sire P5 bass
neepheid replied to rainbowreality's topic in Repairs and Technical
Ah, fair dos - if you've got no existing drill holes then fit what pleases you most! The advantage of the Hipshot is that all three string are quick release, at the expense of taking up a little more real estate. The Sire one is more compact, but the middle string is captive. Pick your poison... -
String tree retainer for a Sire P5 bass

Thanks so much for the info! I've had a look at this and the dimensions of the important bits seem to pretty much match the Hipshot. My neck has no drill holes yet for the retainer so will go for the lighter Hipshot - I've put Gotoh 525's on already to lessen the neck dive so may as well keep the weight down! -

You're right - I am keen on this pedal! I'll try to have a bit of self control though (both for buying, and for selling once something else shiny and new gets my attention). That restraint probably won't last long though! Like others have said, this looks like MXR have hit quite a sweet spot gap in the market of useful bass synth sounds, tracking (hopefully), functionality, hands-on editing, presets, size. Feels a bit pricey, but I must be getting old as I think everything is pricey nowadays!
