If I only had one iron, I'd paradoxically choose a smaller one, as you'll cause more grief overheating delicate electronic components than having to spend 30-40 seconds getting a pot case up to temperature. YMMV.

Bob bought a pedal from me and all was hunky dory!!! Enjoy 🙂

Thanks for the comments guys. I’ve stripped everything off the board this morning and tried all possible combinations. I can confirm that compressor>HX One>DCX is the best for my playing 👍🏻

I asked BD and they came back suggesting the GR 1x10 active speaker. Anyone any knowledge of the GR stuff please?

Their 2/3 aside option isn’t a looker.

The minimum should be like: - power around 50 W (enough for pots) - small tip for accuracy and small places - big tip for big areas like pots https://www.weller-tools.com/eu/gb/consumer/products/corded-soldering-irons/soldering-iron-60w230v-uk https://www.weller-tools.com/eu/gb/consumer/products/consumables/tip-conical-08-mm-wlir60

Enjoyed a very pleasant and easy part trade for David's Empire P Bass over the xmas period. Excellent in all respects and a great introduction to buying on the forum. Thanks ! Andrew

Trying and seeing what sounds best is the only reliable way, but as this is an internet forum and relies on keyboard warriors spouting opinions I would go HX one first as it's probably designed to have the whole signal hit it without any pre-processing especially if you are using modulation effects, then the drive/preamp/EQ for further tone tweaking and finally the compressor just to level the signal.

I've msgd him about his incorrect title/description too but he hasn't replied

Depending on your playing envelope will love dynamics. Therefore I have an envelope before the comp. Remember, there's also a connection to the settings of the comp as well as the fx. Comp can raise the envelope to new heights, but my guess is that the pure signal coming from dynamics from your fingers is the key. Yes, this means lots of trials.

Well I’ve decided to not do this now. I have a Sandberg Lionel Superlight on way but I made that decision in April last year so not sure if that means I can still be in, as final payment will - hopefully - be this year.
-
I’ve not used one myself but I might look at this one - the handle size might be a bit cumbersome for the tiniest jobs but it’ll have enough power to deal with pots and connectors even with lead-free (and I do think we should all be going lead-free nowadays). I’d get this tip with it.
