Crazy pickups combo...?
The P/J is common, and so is J/MM. Have you guys ever seen a P/MM? What do you think it would be good for? I'm planning on getting some new pickups at Xmas for my MIJ jazz, and I've been tempted by the talk surrounding Wizard. Would a P/MM combo be an insane switchup from J/J?
It'd be very versatile but look wrong. Do it!

They've got a "P" and the Double "J" style HB at the bridge - Same sort of Pick-up as the one used in the "Big Block" model.

Nothing wrong with an P/MM

It's like a back to front Attitude, too.

They're HB/P...
That's what I just said, in the post above.
Great minds are obviously thinking alike!

There may be a reason you can't use a blend on a passive bass - I am not sure to be honest! I prefer it though myself, but then I have had mainly active basses. I think the coil tap would be best as a little switch - you could have a push/pull pot though but I don't like them myself. If you want to remain passive you might like to check out the Villex booster, I think it would help you get the most out of a passive bass with such pickup config.

Sandberg also do their ''Basic'' model with a P/MM configuration. Here's a link: http://www.sandberg-guitars.de/

You can have blend controls on a passive - I've got one on my passive Warwick. BUT I'm thinking about changing pickups and going over to VVT controls (Or twin humbuckers with twin volumes and a rotary switch offering various coil tap and series/parallel options)

My custom Sei singlecut 5 has a MM+P pickup config (the P is in a humbucker-type housing though). I requested it specifically, as I wanted the bite of the MM pickup combined with the low-mid thud of the P. Works brilliantly, wish there were more basses with that configuration.

It's certainly do-able and will sound great, but just be aware that the position of the pickup makes a difference as well as the type. so an MM at the bridge may not sound like an MM bass as the pickuup is further towards the neck.

On a slight tangent, I always liked the look of the J/P/J ( not John Paul Jones!) on the Fender Urge.

Cheers,
Alun

There's one going cheap here too:

I like the sunburst, not the scratchplate
