visog Posted yesterday at 09:35 Posted yesterday at 09:35 Wow! A Steinberger 6-string with fan frets and a ramp. Looks great - probably will cost a fortune. Sans headstock haters chime in! Those without back pain enjoy! Video on 'Bass the World's facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/basstheworldcom 3 Quote
Misdee Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Now they just need to find some customers. I love Steinberger but I fear this bass is a bit too "niche" to be a success. A better marketing plan would be if Ned were to manufacture a faithful and definitive version of the classic XL2 bass and then introduce new and innovative models as well as that recognised classic model. This Finn bass would stand a better chance under those circumstances. However, many years ago Ned told me there was zero chance of him ever making the XL basses again for a whole host of reasons, and that probably hasn't changed, so it's all just wishful thinking on my part. It's just that a headless graphite six string with fanned frets has a fairly narrow appeal. Ned will need to convince some technical metal dudes with deep pockets that they need to invest in his bass rather than an established market-leader like Dingwall. I wish him luck, though, I hope he proves me wrong. 2 Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago No offence , but from that picture it’s one of the worst steinberger basses I’ve ever seen . The bridge / saddles look cheaply Chinese like those in cheap headless basses. Even the spirit series look much better . Ned keeps changing things , but the basses don’t seem to be as prominent in the press / in Basschat etc as other companies. If he revisited the xm-2 , that would gain a lot of attention imho. Each to their own .. 1 Quote

AndyTravis Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I’d be curious to mess with a 4 string if they’re bothering. Quote
Burns-bass Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Assume this is a prototype before factory tooling. Love it! Quote
Schnozzalee Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago It looks awful, but I'm sure its great... But it looks bloody awful. 1 Quote
Hellzero Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago And I quite like the overall design, just waiting for the price... Quote

Production from the SCT6 FIN Bass Guitar mold will be limited to twelve units, after which the mold will be permanently retired.” I can read. That’s my basis. 😉 (on the website link above) Edited 16 hours ago by AndyTravis 1 1 Quote
Misdee Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Bear in mind that most bass manufacturers have had to acquiesce to the fact that the prevalent trend is for P Basses and retro instruments in general. Kudos to Ned for completely ignoring that with this offering. There's no dressing this bass up as being anything but futuristic and hi-tech. Quote
AndyTravis Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago I’d suspect this is a “first edition” and a wav version (maple?) will arrive at some point 1 Quote

Bagman Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago if only it had some wood , 4 strings , normal scale and a headstock 6 Quote
velvetkevorkian Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Much better than the cricket bat style Steinbergers to my taste. Can we get NS and whoever specced the new Jackson Rhodes sharkfin bass in the same room and see what they come up with though Quote

Unlike how un-niche it was when the first one came out in 1979? Think it looks great, hopefully I can get a several second hand version of the production version at some point! 1 Quote
