Warmoth SG with dual Dark Star pickups and Audere preamp

Just bought this recently here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=49761

Not 100% sure I want to get rid of this... It sounds great and plays brilliantly but after trying and buying various basses over the years, I\'ve come to the conclusion that I\'m a passive Fender P-Bass guy!

Solid walnut body, rosewood neck (nice and chunky, smooth but not glossed finish) and ziricote (no, I\'ve never heard of this either!) fretboard. Gotoh bridge, Schaller tuners, dual Dark Star pickups (http://www.hammoneng.com) and an Audere 3ZB preamp (http://www.audereaudio.com/3ZB.htm) with 4 band EQ and a 3-way impedance control that can give either a deep woody tone or a thinner growlier sound (as well as a regular sound in the middle) at the click of a switch. It also comes with a hard case, straplocks and leather strap! After buying this I put on a fresh set of Pyramid Gold flats (awesome strings, worth £40 a set), but I can chuck a set of rounds on it if they\'re not your thing.

It\'s in excellent condition bar a tiny chip/crack in the body which is barely noticeable but I will try and photograph later on (camera\'s dead at the moment!).

Now reduced to £475. I\'d prefer to meet in person (I\'m in Streatham, SW London), but can post anywhere in the UK for £20. Anyone who wants to come over and try it through my Markbass combo is more than welcome!

Clips!

Rounds (Starts off with impedance switch on regular setting bridge pickup, then both, then neck. Then repeats in lo-Z mode for a deeper sound. EQ left flat.)
Flats (Starts off with neck pickup, then both, then bridge. Very slight treble boost.

Now if a leather strap doesnt sell it I dont know what will! Stunning bass you have there mate thats a really nice one, sure you want to get rid? I cant see a looker like this hanging around for long, especially when fitted with darkstars!

With the flats on, this is an old school monster with plenty of thump. I've now put a set of the same flats on my Precision and I'm now sorted for thumpiness, so I put some fresh rounds on this SG to try. Sounds like an active jazz on steroids, really meaty with the low mids boosted on the on-board EQ, with tons of sizzling top end. Although they look like old mudbuckers, these Darkstars are single coils with a really detailed and natural sound.

Although it's a lovely bass, my main player is still the Precision, and this is an expensive bass for me to have lying around as a backup so I'm afraid it must go. May trade for a decent Fender P also!

Hey dan, what you looking for in trade?

I got a couple of basses - a dirt cheap Harley Benton 6-string, a MIM Fender Deluxe P-bass special (Active, P-J pickups, Jazz bass neck, I put a BAII bridge on there. Its black witha gold pickguard), a 1996 MIA Fender Deluxe Jazz Bass (active) in a sort of creamy white finish with a deep red tortoiseshell pickguard. Oh and I got my Jaguar still knocking around - Check out me 'supercollider for sale thread for pics, more available on request.

In all honesty, the MIA Jazz isnt gonna leave me. thats the keeper - the one i never screw with. The P-special is currently my main bass and im loving it and would be sad to see it go. I just got the Jaguar up and running, and it sounds like a beast. My paintwork is pretty shoddy.

I get paid the end of this week. I'd like you to say you want the Jaguar or the cheap 6-string (or both if you want). Or the Jag and cash. Or some pedals and cash.

Dont wanna get rid of the P-special, i havent had it long and its pretty cool, but for the warmouth id do it (and give some chash your way)

I'm leaning towards cash only at the mo. I'm really happy with my Squier VM P-Bass with flats for old school thump, and my Peavey T-40 for ric-like grind. I might consider upgrading the P to a proper Fender (passive P or PJ) if I find a real nice one at a good price though. I've been downsizing my pedal collection lately - I've just sold an OC-2, I sold you the Paisley, I have a Supercollider Beast alerady and I don't fancy the Zoom!

You're welcome to come and try it out anytime though!

£500 is IMO a fantastic price for that bass, but at the moment I just cant justify spending even that on a new bass (my car has its MOT in november - i doubt it'll pass and the head gasket is going so i've gotta get a new car really :) )

I'll have to leave it unfortunately.

good luck with the sale

It's a great-looking bass, both aesthetically and in spec, and I'd certainly come round for a try, if it weren't for the fact that I can't really see it fitting in with any of my current projects, and it's too nice a bass to sit on the wall until the right gig comes along.

Incidentally, it's considered good etiquette to delete any old "bump" posts before the last one.

S.P.

..... and then Nick (OldHorseMurphy) can buy my Stingray 5 :)

Good luck with the sale.

Jeez, what's wrong with people these days, all sort of crap getting sold and this beaut still sitting here? I'm not sure I need another fretted bass and no doubt you don't need a fretless Precision, but I tempted to offer a trade just to get two awesome basses off this page :)

Don't really ned another fretted either but that bass is bloody lovely, can't see why people aren't chewing you arm off for it. You'd probably get a lot more interest of you parted it, DS's are always in demand?

But then again, that body is routed for the Darkstars so might be hard to shift without the pickups. I'm not desparate for cash just yet so am happy for it to sit here for a while rather than put it on eBay!

I bet if you put it on ebay with worldwide shipping you'd get a lot of interest from across the pond
