That sounds fab Pete! Not gonna deny that Led Zep are one of my all time fav bands and JPJ right up there with his bass lines. Am I right in thinking he only ever had one bass? If so, did anyone ever mention it's all in the fingers?!

No, he had several but he had a 62 jazz bass that he used for most of zeppelin recording and gigs.

Pretty much what @Woodinblack said. He mainly used the 62 sunburst Jazz that he bought as a teenager, but he also had a red jazz bass, a 50s precision and a fretless P bass. Towards the end of Zeppelin he had an 8 string Hagström and an Alembic. Post Zep, he generally used Manson basses, although I have seen him playing a more recent sunburst Fender Jazz.

Any clips / promo material of you guys?

Now that's a bit of a sore point! A couple of us have been on about that for ages, and it is one thing that is definitely stopping us getting more of the top gigs on the circuit. A guitar player that I play with in another band, also plays in a Police / Sting tribute who are very busy - basically some of the bigger places we play are some of the smaller gigs that they do. When they got a pretty serious agent behind them, the first thing he did was get some high quality promo videos done, which led to them getting bigger and better gigs.

If you search on YouTube (and I would rather you didn't), you get all sorts of cr*p come up, mostly with a different singer and before I was in the band. The best of a bad lot is probably this clip that a punter did on a phone at the excellent Cluny in Newcastle (not too bad for a video on a mobile). This was the first gig that Didge (keys player) did with us, but he's hardly featured on the clip for some reason.

See what the BC Swear Aunty makes of this, it's not my fault!

I've been in a band called Firef***er since February.  From what I understand the name comes from a song by Helge Schneider and was the result of needing a name but not being able to think of one beforehand.

They've been going for a while and were a typical rock covers party band but had a bit of a rethink over Covid, caused in part by the death of one of the founders, and they're now a Stranglers cover band, the long term plan is to include some originals as well once we have a solid ground to build on.

I'm not on any of those BTW, they're from before I joined, but maybe we'll do some more videos soon.  Our first gig is on the 18th of October.  I'm 50/50 excited/runnning around going "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"

We're based on the nothern outskirts of Rendsburg in Schleswig Holstein, I doubt I'll see any of you at a gig anytime soon!

Why have a missed this thread, I love talking about my band 😁

I'm in an original rock band called Felis Leo, we're a bit old skool 70s and 80s influenced with a heavy dose of AC/DC in the DNA. The three original members started the band 40 years ago in school but went their separate ways and came back together in 2017 at the start of their mid life crisis (none of them can afford Porsches so a band is the next best thing). They recorded an album, Life By Misadventure and a 4 track EP, Porn At Work before I joined.

I left a function band in the summer of '22 and was asked to join FL around November time. Loved the music but wasn't interested in getting back on the bass horse at that time.

The 2nd time they asked was a few months later but this time there was a caveat, they were playing a mutual friend's wedding and they were desperate 😄

When I started rehearsing they had lost their drummer too! This has become a running theme, since I joined there have been 4.5 drummers 😂 (and we used to rehearse near the full size Stonehenge).

My first gig was the wedding. Driving away from the gig on a hot August night I stopped as something caught my eye, I wound down the window and watched two UFOs fly silently above me. I followed them for a while on my home and thought "you don't see this in covers bands".

We do about half a dozen gigs a year and we've just played our first gig in Southampton. Since I joined I've been allowed to join in with the recording process as the previous bassist didn't 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Since '23 we've only released the Butterflies EP and a Christmas single, Cold Turkey. There's a couple of new tunes that require recording, one of them is about Lydia Shears who was a local witch and great, great, great Auntie to our guitarist Paul. He hasn't inherited any of her shapeshifting qualities.

Here's the last EP
