I think the Boss SY synth sounds are much less "classic synth" in comparison to the MXR, C4 and FI. But there are enough decent options for me to use on a few tracks with my covers band which is all I am really needing. And the "faux-tracking" is super tight. This is a pretty cool demo, albeit on guitar 1 1 Quote

ped Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago If you don't own one of these, a Noble/Capo and a Cali 76, are you even really a bass player 5 Quote

I think the key part of that infomercial was where he was saying he was playing their own pedal back to them and they didn't realise it was their pedal... he can make gear sound good - that goes a long way. Plus - good marketing, and a really condidered feature set. 1 Quote

Ooh, I don't know about that. I don't usually like false overenthusiasm, but I can't help but like IMA. He's one of the few bass content creators I actually admire and can relate to. He's a proper working bassist who has a great ear for tone and loves playing with effects. And importantly, he's not flashy and doesn't make content to show off his technique, unlike a lot of other well-known bass content creators who don't seem to leave their house. 5 Quote

It’s going to get a thorough rinsing on gigs. So easy to dial in and those presets sounds amazing right out the box. Have been chasing those sounds for years. Really couldn’t be happier with it. 4 1 Quote

I have no need for a pre/DI. I'd like to try the MXR at some stage though experience with the FI and C4 tells me I wouldn't actually use it. Quote
simonlittle Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I regularly use a Capo and Cali76 bass compressor so adding the bass synth to that puts me firmly in the club. And before the bass synth came out I was wrangling the three usual suspect 3Leaf pedals trying to coax out those exact sounds so I’m happy to have it all in one little box. Do still use the MXR bass octave deluxe for straight octaver sounds though. Suited my basses better than the 3Leaf. 2 Quote

I think it really helps that he comes from a different background. Same as Josh &co of JHS show - they make content as a side show of their online bass lessons company/pedal company so don't rely on clickbait to survive - like if he wanted to do a hour long video about some really dull bass related thing with no commercial side to it- say making a mute out of a bit of foam you could buy in Lidl, he could and it would appear just as genuine as if he was pitching some product he's involved in. 2 Quote
LukeFRC Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I decided if I was going to buy a piece of synth gear that was going to gather dust I'ld pay £50 more and pick up a Microkorg 2 or similar (I've no idea if it's any good, not spent any time on synthchat finding out) Quote

That's a huge endorsement, thanks Simon, particularly given you've been chasing those sounds for a long while. 2 Quote
Al Krow Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago PS @simonlittle which synth pedals have you previously worked with? Quote
simonlittle Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago @Al Krow Mainly I was using various combinations of octavers, envelope filters, chorus, distortions etc. I’ve had various multiFX in the past too but I was using those for very different purposes. With careful tweaking I could muster a decent synth bass sound for a gig on separates, but that would tie up 2/3 pedals just for one sound so the ability to have a bunch of giggable meat and potatoes synth sounds ready to go is brilliant. 1 Quote

Yeah, I don’t dislike IMA, I do feel like his enthusiasm is genuine and he does bring good stuff to the table. I just find that when he’s paired with another enthusiastic American it tips it over the edge for me. 😅 Quote

kiat Posted 1 minute ago Posted 1 minute ago I'm watching this video again, right now and the sounds IMA is getting out of his (world class?) bass and (ditto) chops & feel with this MXR Synth pedal is surely, world class, because these preset sounds are very very close to the recorded versions of the tracks he helped design it, to emulate. I agree with some that it's better when he is on his own, but then that's almost true whenever you get two Americans together on YouTube, unless one of them is Rick Beato 😬. I definitely want one, but the price is not for everyone! Quote
