Started life as a second hand Squier CV 5 string (natural finish).

Lockdown respray, fender high mass bridge, gotoh machines, pearloid scratch plate and a set of Wilkinson replacement pickups later......

What brand is the extra pickup in that?

I believe they're both Dimarzios, the neck pickup is a Model One.

My vintage modified Jag, further modified by our own @Andyjr1515.  It belonged to a close friend of mine, Jack, who won it at a Bash Bash.  His daughter generously let me keep it.

Andy stripped the original painted finish.  He then put a burl veneer and a CF scratch-plate on.  It has Duncan Design pups and half-rounds.  It makes a wonderful sound.

Check his website (above) for before and after photos and for some of his other work.

PS:  This was owned from new by Andy.  He kindly donated it as a raffle prize for the East Mids Bass Bash one year.  The previous year he donated an acoustic bass to the raffle.  It's worth mentioning because he's such a helpful and friendly chap too.

Wow! That’s bloody stunning! 😍 I’ve seen a lot of Andy’s work on the build diaries and have always been blown away. But, I’d not seen this before!

Is there a thread from when he did the work?

@Andyjr1515

I've neither asked nor looked for one.  Andy did a demo of his methods for veneer refinishing at a bass bash a few years ago and it is something he's posted about before.  Dunno 'bout a dedicated thread for it.

Andy?

I didn't do a thread of actually doing the Squier Jag and actually didn't take progress photos (as I confessed, apparently, in a post in 2011.    2011!!!!  That's a mid-teenager's life span ago!!) but I think I can find a thread of the method used if the photo links are still sound.  I'll have a look.

Here are a few shots of @SpondonBassed's Squier Jag soon after it was finished.  Whoever thought that natural, unstained wood could be so stunning! :

This is a thread that covers the basic method I use, whereas - while the above is natural veneer just with clear varnish - this one below features a stained finish to the veneer.  Applying the veneer is identical, though:

My Squier bitsa project - a nitro refin fiesta red body and refin neck with a cheeky Fender logo.

Fender 60s vintage reissue bridge.

Tonerider Classic P pickup and GHS Precision flats from this very forum.

Quest ongoing for replacement machine heads. Until then the old ones stay gaffer taped.

Squier Jazz Vintage Modified Modified. Apart from the Aguilar pickup, V/B/T controls, and pretty control plate, and the neat defret job, it's just the same as any other Squier Jazz.

No tear-out, the slight wiggliness on the lines is from the fret tangs.

Here is my Squier jazz in classic sunburst and tort. It started life as fretted, but got a Fender pau ferro fretless neck during covid lockdown. It has a lighter set of tuning machines fitted, though I forget what brand (they were in my guitar tech's spares bin). The neck pickup failed recently so I had DiMarzio relentless J bass pickups fitted and better quality pots & jack. It's my only bass guitar, so I've spent a bit getting it exactly how I want. I play a fair bit of double bass so my bass guitar is setup in that sort of style - including XL chrome flatwounds.
