I'm doing a gig next week and the TE 715X is available as house backline. I normally bring my own rig, but wondering if I can plug my Orange LBT into the speak bypassing the TE head. Looking online I see a speakon socket on the back...

Why make life harder for yourself than it needs to be.
I’ve done TV shows where I had to use a TE combo rather than my rig. Was it my sound? No. Was it good enough? Yes. The only person that really cares is you. To most other musicians ā€˜it’s just bass isn’t it?!’

I’d use the TE, though I do appreciate that anyone using an amp that’s unfamiliar can often not enjoy the gig as much as if they’ve got their own sound. That’s why I have a Sansamp - I can pretty much get the sound I want through that, from then in it’s just finding where/if the provided amps flat setting is.

Yep, or run Sansamp (or other DI/EQ/drive into the provided amps FX return - something I’m having to do a lot these days due to shared rigs and using provided backlineĀ

I had to use an old Trace combo at a venue when my (now retired) Peterson combo failed during sound check. Ā The Trace weighed sooooooo much trying to lump it on to the 5ft high stage from the storage area, but by god was it worth it. Ā Best sound I’ve ever had!

Danger is you sound rather unfamiliar with the rights and wrongs of plugging in stuff. A spare speakon is definitely not an open invitation to plug in another amp as in most cases that would blow up both amps.

Ā

If you can completely disconnect the Trace amp from the cab then it is just a cab and you can plug your amp into it.

Ā

Otherwise hell no with a side of fuggedaboudit.

Just use the Trace. The differences in sound between amps, imo, are fairly minimal. Don't be guilty of imagining these chasm-esque differences in sound. They're really not there amongst amp brands! (In the past 40 years, anyway).

Fx send from your amp going to Fx return on the Trace is safe.

Was just gonna say the same thing.

Ā

Unless you need your amp for something specific like having a clean/dirt channel with footswitch or something I'd just use whats provided though personally. If your gear os pretty integral though then just utilising the send/return is a nice safe way of configuring it.Ā

I can only repeat - use the 715x

Ā

It may not have the 12 band EQ or dual compressorĀ  of my SMX, but if you cant get a suitable tone out of a TE,Ā  you need to see a specialistĀ  :)

I dare you to start a thread called:-
