Radio 6

Glorious, just glorious. Why did I wait so long? It brings a joy to our kitchen that has been absent since my family decided that Heart FM was their preferred station about 5-years ago (I know, but some battles are not worth fighting).

And the songs I'm hearing that I'd forgotten, I even heard one of my old bands from 1984 the other day (a reliable sign of quality curation if ever there was one). And the basslines? Seems the editorial policy is defined by the two questions 'Is the artist credible?' and 'Is the bassline creative?'

Love it. Renewed my faith in the BBC 👍

I converted to BBC6 around 2010 purely by chance...Unthinkable now but at the time the station was facing potential shutdown.

Personal faves are Mary Anne Hobbs, Iggy Pop on Sunday and for both tunes and banter Radcliffe and Maconie....Crisps on the Radio...pure genius

Love 6 Music as an idea but the music is just so unlistenable to me most of the time I rarely listen to it with the exception of Radcliffe and Maconie who I have on nearly every weekend morning.

Wow, that's a huge spread of music you don't like!

I think I have a very broad taste in music but it is about the way we listen to the radio I suppose. I often just need something 'easier' on the ear or familiar...

What was your old band?

That made me chuckle. The answer to that question is a whole can of worms best left closed, an era of my life that is well behind me, one I'd be happier to talk about had anything I played, wrote, or even wore - especially hairstyles - possessed any quality or merit :)

The 80s are my favourite era for music.  The level of the musicianship is certainly higher than the decade that followed.

John Fruscante's agent will be in touch Mick 👍

Think it will become part of mine :)

Yes, big fan of the majority of 6 Music. Just don't get up early, the bloke on before Lauren Lavern shouldn't even make it to hospital radio.

I have to check this guy out :)

I guess you're talking about Chris Hawkins.

Yes, he is a bit 'hospital radio', but a lot of listeners eventually warm to him.

I his defence he is a good workhorse for the station, often deputising at short notice for other presenters - and he has a good knack (with a gentle style) as an interviewer.

One of the great joys of my life was finally getting a car with DAB radio and being able to listen to 6 Music while driving. Tempered somewhat by this also introducing the Fun Kids station which inevitably wins out on long journeys.

I know things have shifted a little latterly but its initial MO of new stuff, old stuff you might have missed and endless trawling of BBC session/live archives made it my dream station.

Was doing a long drive over the weekend and listened to the Iggy Pop show, which was great - it gets me to listen to a whole load of stuff that I wouldn't otherwise hear - like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard !!!

Also, was listening to Prof Hannah Fry on Lauren Lavern show today, blew my mind !

HaHa. That's one of the things I hate the most when he pops up unexpectedly!

The real thing in his defence is that he plays some great music. Just wish he didn't have to speak between tracks.

It's the only music station I listen to.

(Well, apart from the Radio 2 Folk Show  Presented by... yup. Mark Radcliffe.)

I don't like Craig Charles much, TBH.  Music's fine, I just find him annoying.

Love his specialist show, but yes, he has slight Steve Wright in the Afternoon tendencies on his daytime show. Once again, forgiven as the music and guests are great.

Remember that he was involved with the early punk scene, so he does have some music credentials outside funk and soul.

His Trunk of Punk feature is great!

(Trunk of Punk - listener or sometimes a guest chooses 3 punk tracks, daily feature)
