Twigman Posted April 6, 2009 Share Posted April 6, 2009 I have decided that the final song in our set would be better played with a plectrum but all the other songs will be fingers. In the past I would stuff a plectrum between the body and the scratchplate but my scratchplate severely warped doing that. As the final song runs on from the previous fingered song in a medley style I have a mere 4 bars (@ something like 140bpm) to grab my plectrum and sort myself out.... The scratchplate is too firmly attached in the ric so in that case ut's usually a back pocket. Really easy to reach, no damage to the scrathplate and it holds several picks so you can afford to drop a couple and still have more ready to hand. BigRedX Posted April 6, 2009 Share Posted April 6, 2009 Generally all over the place so there's always one close to hand. Live I keep a few on top of the amp. At the moment all my pick playing is done on the fretted bass and all my finger-style on the fretless, so it's simply a matter of picking up a plectrum when I swap basses. In the past when I've done songs that require me to swap between styles I've been able to wedge a pick between the bridge saddles (doesn't work on every bass). I have one on every strap in the same place and can get, and then park, a plectrum with speed and accuracy .. Deep Thought Posted April 6, 2009 Share Posted April 6, 2009 I keep mine under the scratchplate-I use thin nylon ones, so no issues with warping-I loosened the two top edge screws a bit. We have two songs back to back in the set, one I use fingers, one pick, so I need to nab it quick. Marky L Posted April 6, 2009 Share Posted April 6, 2009 I use the age old, highly cheesy option of a strip of gaffa tape on my mic stand and attach a line of a few picks on to the part of the tape still showing. It's like rock n roll man and it works for me. Either that or lick it and spit stick it to your forehead before the start of the song??
