Vintage Fenders

They are not my colour choice, I’ve never actually seen one up close

I've seen a few - they were around in music shops when I first started playing as a teenager in the late 70s. I didn't particularly like the colour then, but that one actually looks pretty cool...! Not a bad price either for a bass that may well be pretty collectable.

edit: having had a closer look, it doesn't seem to be in the greatest condition. I've never thought of 'splitting of the wood' as being 'typical' of 70’s Fenders!

I remember seeing a antiga p-bass, strat and telecaster in a shop together when i first started playing (new) - didn't like them at the time (or any time since), but they certainly looked noticable as a collection.

Apparently in the 70s they did a whole collection

So you think that pickguard can not be changed on vintage Fender, not at all. It automatically lists it on replica list?

I don't think you understand what I mean. In short; it looks different than all others I have seen as in appearance and lack of shrinking. We are talking about the pickguard, not the whole bass...

A pickguard can be changed, but then it is no longer complete so it is worth less. Its not about them being instruments, its about them being collectors items.

Ok, i understand what You mean. As i am not a specialist on vintage Fenders and only had my friends 70...jb on one gig, I didn't felt that vintage karma, i don't have to add. I think i am ok with my 2003. Jaco refinished and fretted jazz.

I've been looking for a vintage Jazz neck for a while. They crop up on ebay occasionally, and here too, but for one reason or another, price or condition, or both, I haven't bought one yet.

This one is on ebay, and I quote - "1974 Fender Jazz Bass Neck in perfect condition."

It clearly has multiple screw holes in the heel, some of which have been plugged badly, and it's £1.6k !!

Rant over, move on.

3 of the tuners bear the ® after the logo (used from 1972 and on iirc), and 1 doesn't. Their positioning is far from straight, which makes me think this are (old) Fender tuners on another make neck with newly drilled holes?

You are correct about the tuners but the neck is a Fender, and a need a bit more
