Watcha here! Dunno, if it's real, or copy, but it seems like Rick!

He started to use it in this, 'coming-up' North America tour...

I love how people jump to "Shopped!!!" without even looking at the photo properly, that's definitely not a shop on the internet (a full professional 'shop could fake it, but they cost ££££££££).

Nice to see he's using another instrument, hopefully he sounds better with a Rick compared to that 5 string he's got, which sounds dire whenever I hear it.

I don't know about that, it is a Rick after all.

You kno', the thing about his basses...
When I was in Riga's gig this year, I couldn't actually tell sound difference between his instruments...
And I can't tell it, when watchin' vids also...

Dunno, if it's his wish,, amp or somethin' else, but, he has that one 'Truheeo' tone, no matter what bass he's jerkin' at that time...

BTW, Josh, I don't think Rob will 'tribute' Cliff in their new album presentation tour... What for, at last?

P.S., I couldn't understand clearly [because of my poor English], but, is someone's thinkin' that photo is a 'fake' ar what? :)

If yes, then visit MetOnTour.com, and you can see gig photos there

He mentioned in an interview in the latest BGM that he was looking to integrate his Rickenbackers into the live show but they weren't cutting it, looks like they've sorted any problems out now. Not good for the Ric GAS, though :)
Dear me, they'll be organising the lynch mobs over at RickResource - new bridge (Schaller 3D - good choice!) scratchplate, pups - including routing for the neck one - and that paintjob!
:) They will be passing the smelling salts and shouting "how very dare you" in a frenzy of righteous indignation

PS, Bassassin, I'm surprised they haven't been after you with a poisoned umbrella tip*!

Edit: * for those who haven't had the pleasure of RickResource, the mere mention of Rickenfakers sends many forumites into a near-rabid, fomenting at mouth, Gawd-bless-America, state of apoplexy - some of them appear to think it is their duty to report every Rickenfaker to the authorities - its probably them, not Rickenbacker, which are responsible for eBay's heavy policies towards Rick "inspired" basses. That said, like BassChat, there are some very helpful, genuine people on it.

Thanks for that last bit as I've been a member of Rick Resource longer than any other forum.

However just to clarify, its most definitely Rickenbacker themselves who are extremely hot on any "Rick-inspired " basses. John Hall has posted regularly on the Forum stating as much.

I'm glad to see Robert using a Rick, altered or not. He seems to have had a strange tone in Metallica, but I guess they thought it worked; be interesting to see what he sounds like now. I thought his Infectious Grooves tones were great.

They get a bad press! Seriously, they really are a knowledgeable, helpful & informative bunch and they appreciate the fact I have specialised knowledge which means I can spot a Faker at 1000 metres! There is actually quite a lot of genuine interest in the old Jap copies over there, a lot of the older guys started out on them (because they couldn't afford real ones) and still have a bit of a soft spot for them - as well as recognising that many of them were damn good basses.

I think a lot of the OTT reactions are a result of it being essentially a brand-fan forum, rather than a dive where a bunch of bassists hang out. It's probably pretty much the same on any single-brand board.

Don't get me wrong, senior dudes like John Allgaier and Dane [can't remember surname] are really, really helpful and nice blokes to boot - but there are plenty of irritating Rick suck-ups as well who come over with the vapours as far as Rickenfakers* are concerned - which just annoys me

I have also been a member of that Forum longer than BassChat too!

* My view: you pays your money, you takes your choice; Fender are doing fine despite plethora of copies over the globe
I raised the subject of ric copies on the Dude Pit and got short shrift, hardly went back after that.
Same here, might even have been the same thread. Is the Pit still going? I never used it much but got sick of having to sign up to a new version every month because of its constant meltdowns & implosions. A lot of hostile rednecks on there anyway - must be all that testosterone. :)

Have to say the occasional time I’ve logged onto Rick Resource they seem genuinely curious rather than scandalised about classic Rickenfakers; plenty of good info there, but also that strange, rather humourless obsessiveness you get on US single-make forums – compared to the comfortable cyber-pub that is Basschat.
At the other end of the spectrum, after a few visits to the Red Dwarf that is Finnbass, it gave our work server a nervous breakdown and permanently blocked access for no apparent reason! Shame.
On topic – like the custom Rick, prefer it to Lemmy’s or the mod looking red one that Paul Wellers bassist is using.

Lemmy's had a few - this one's really interesting:

Tbh I have no idea if any part of that's ever been within 100 miles of a real Rickenbacker - but it's an incredible looking thing, whatever it is!
