Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!

I have taken the decision to rid myself of additional delays, fuzz effects and additional drives now that I am doing more ‘meat and potatoes’ rock music. The result is my smallest board since about 2011.

 

Tuner, drive, compression, Sansamp.

 

Not especially original, but it works!

 

Forgive the cable spaghetti…

OC2 clone > mammoth clone > Alembic tube pre “clone”> tuner/mod/delay/reverb/everything else that I think I need from tone3000, mounted on a pedalboard riser powered by you know what.

That’s an intense power requirement for four mini enclosure pedals! Your power supply probably takes up more total real estate than the pedal themselves

hahaha, they are extras that I have that is not currently used for the big board. I really dont have to use the distributor but I already have it so might as well plus it makes the board looks full. 😁

oh yeah definitely, it is a known fact that board gaps and empty spaces ruins tone and hinders you to play better. More gear is the only solution.

I took my board to bits at the start of the summer - and partly laziness and partly not really needing much more this is what I’ve used the last few times … 

it just works

I would assume as a responsible basschatter, the OP would either carry a spare few 50p pieces for the meter or their own generator.

Bold to assume we have a spare 50p after buying all the pedals we have.

How do you get on with the JHS Colour Box on bass? I've been considering that or the Crayon for something different from the usual American amps. I have tried an IR of it on the ToneX One, low gain.

I like it.

Some people like tubes, I like the sound of transformers - my fave preamp I shouldn’t have sold is the hellborg one -  that’s based on a neve type transformer and a more modern preamp stage and coil based eq…

The colourbox is input and output transformers, two neve style preamp stages and a simpler eq circuit… 

For me it lets me give a more polished - tiny bit compressed tone to the desk/amp - the eq does any tweaks I want and it just sounds nice - the hx stomp is running amp and cab sims.

 

The bad things:

i don’t think it excels at drive sound, it’s that straight into console Beatles thing that works with guitar but I don’t like on bass, esp not last in the chain into a Pa - but you can set it so when it does clip it can clip just the peaks of the notes. if you want that sound I think there are cheaper ways to get similar- Hudson broadcast maybe?

the gain, interstage gain and output volume knobs isn’t intuitive to me, and I guess makes sense if you’re going for a driven signal it makes more sense.

It doesn’t love hot signals into the 1/4in input - so if you’ve got a preamp before you have to pay close attention to gain staging. I’ve got line level from the stomp going into the xlr in as it sounded better to me.

 

talkbass seems to hate the HPF and write the whole oedal off based on that. At the lowest setting you can combine it with a bass boost for the pulltec type trick and that’s nice. Otherwise my phone has a stocks and stocks app I’ve never used. I don’t discount iPhones just because one feature isn’t made for me. 
 

but overall - it’s brilliant and if I had too  only have one pedal, my heart would say the colourbox. 
 

crayon, for me the joy is a preamp strip style sound with transformers in it. 
Does Tonex have any neve 1073 style captures - that might be fun?
