thodrik Posted Wednesday at 20:52 Posted Wednesday at 20:52 I have taken the decision to rid myself of additional delays, fuzz effects and additional drives now that I am doing more ‘meat and potatoes’ rock music. The result is my smallest board since about 2011. Tuner, drive, compression, Sansamp. Not especially original, but it works! Forgive the cable spaghetti… 2 Quote

That’s an intense power requirement for four mini enclosure pedals! Your power supply probably takes up more total real estate than the pedal themselves Quote

I really dont have to use the distributor but I already have it so might as well plus it makes the board looks full. 😁 Edited Thursday at 07:08 by ordep 1 Quote

ordep Posted Thursday at 12:18 Posted Thursday at 12:18 (edited) oh yeah definitely, it is a known fact that board gaps and empty spaces ruins tone and hinders you to play better. More gear is the only solution. Edited Thursday at 12:19 by ordep 1 6 Quote

LukeFRC Posted yesterday at 14:46 Posted yesterday at 14:46 I took my board to bits at the start of the summer - and partly laziness and partly not really needing much more this is what I’ve used the last few times … it just works 7 Quote

Bold to assume we have a spare 50p after buying all the pedals we have. 3 Quote
krispn Posted yesterday at 18:45 Posted yesterday at 18:45 (edited) Check down the back of the sofa. Last time I did I found 3 quid in change and a Boss ODB3! Edited yesterday at 18:45 by krispn 2 Quote

I've been considering that or the Crayon for something different from the usual American amps. I have tried an IR of it on the ToneX One, low gain. Quote

I've been considering that or the Crayon for something different from the usual American amps. I have tried an IR of it on the ToneX One, low gain. I like it. Some people like tubes, I like the sound of transformers - my fave preamp I shouldn’t have sold is the hellborg one - that’s based on a neve type transformer and a more modern preamp stage and coil based eq… The colourbox is input and output transformers, two neve style preamp stages and a simpler eq circuit… For me it lets me give a more polished - tiny bit compressed tone to the desk/amp - the eq does any tweaks I want and it just sounds nice - the hx stomp is running amp and cab sims. The bad things: i don’t think it excels at drive sound, it’s that straight into console Beatles thing that works with guitar but I don’t like on bass, esp not last in the chain into a Pa - but you can set it so when it does clip it can clip just the peaks of the notes. if you want that sound I think there are cheaper ways to get similar- Hudson broadcast maybe? the gain, interstage gain and output volume knobs isn’t intuitive to me, and I guess makes sense if you’re going for a driven signal it makes more sense. It doesn’t love hot signals into the 1/4in input - so if you’ve got a preamp before you have to pay close attention to gain staging. I’ve got line level from the stomp going into the xlr in as it sounded better to me. talkbass seems to hate the HPF and write the whole oedal off based on that. At the lowest setting you can combine it with a bass boost for the pulltec type trick and that’s nice. Otherwise my phone has a stocks and stocks app I’ve never used. I don’t discount iPhones just because one feature isn’t made for me. but overall - it’s brilliant and if I had too only have one pedal, my heart would say the colourbox. crayon, for me the joy is a preamp strip style sound with transformers in it. Does Tonex have any neve 1073 style captures - that might be fun? othewise that was a lot of blether from me - go watch Janek Gwizdalas preamp shootout video… 2 1 Quote
ProjeKtWEREWOLF Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago What *have* I done!?? I've just ordered a Cioks 8 Extender for my DC7. Too many pedals doubled up on single outputs. Messy. Image from the website, obviously. I'm about to switch from a modest home made wooden board to a Pedaltrain Novo 24.....which is enormous and completely overkill. I'll get my Dunlop wah back on the board though. Will post pics when I get it figured out. Next big purchase will probably be a Darkglass Bk7 ultra pedal. 3 Quote

I used a Caline brick previously, and it was only a little noiser, but not as flexible. I started messing with my 'new' setup, even before the Cioks 8 comes. The Wah came off because I couldn't figure out how to fit it in, as well as the ehx Tri Parallel. 1 Quote

I have them both comfortably, both mounted with Cioks Grips on a Jr Max, but they also fit on my Classic 1 as long as you are careful with the placement (need to allow for the power lead, which needs a bit more room). I wouldn't want to use them both together underneath anything 22", as it'll get a bit cramped when you have cables connected to both sides of both units. I previously used GigRig, which I also liked, but I have a couple of cable failures and as I swap my board about a lot, I found I kept needing to buy more cables as I always wanted them at the perfect length. Cioks performance was just as good, but way less hassle. I also have a small PT Nano that I use with my Moog synth and that is powered by a Cioks SOL, which is just as good. I can't imagine ever needing another power supply. 1 Quote
0175westwood29 Posted 30 minutes ago Posted 30 minutes ago there was some weird phasing going on so just stripped things back. Quote
LukeFRC Posted 9 minutes ago Posted 9 minutes ago we have different definitions of "stripped things back" I think Quote
