Saw this the other day on BBC, and it's also on the iPlayer -

TBH, I enjoyed it. I've not listened to much Van in years, this has pushed me into catching up! Typical BBC, though - the camera spends a lot of time showing the hipsters in the audience, and Cerys Matthews. Oh dear!

Van's band is relatively stripped down, and the certainly are a crack-hot bunch. Bassist plays electric and upright - not showy, but it's pretty tasty and fits in to perfection.

All (I think, or most) of his back catalogue has been made available on the streaming sites in the last week or so (great news for subscribers like me!) so I might start digging a bit more of old Van The Man! B)

Was that old Rick Stein in the front row.Didn't know he was into George Ivan.

Yes it was, and I was surprised too, expect there may have been a few "celebrity" invites to bulk out the front row including Kim Cattrell .

First gig I have ever watched that took place in the middle of the road (or should it be The right side of the road?).

Looked in vain during the closing credits to see who was playing Bass, on his Facebook they say it was Paul Moore

You can spot me in the audience so I'll take that as a compliment. :D

I was at both the 3.00pm and the 6.00pm gigs. Van was on the very best form I've seen. He even cracked a couple of jokes!

But yes, the bass player was perfect for the gig. he moved easily between double bass and electric bass, and played flawlessly all day. A truly great player.

Frank.

This probably won't go down too well, but I live less than 5 minutes from the venue of that gig and spent most of that particular bank holiday with doors and windows shut, playing music that didn't sound like elevator music for sh*t shops.

I'm not disputing that the grumpy wee sh*te has some good tunes, and Mr Moore did a sterling job holding down the bottom end, but Christ was it dull!

My intro to VM was the televised version of the show released circa 1974 as It's Too Late To Stop Now

I've bought many albums and seen many shows but he never beat it... Also never seen the concert available on DVD (unless you know better).

Oooohhhh..... One of my favourites of all time. 'Bring it on home to me' is amazing.

Just caught this on BBC4 again. Paul Moore is great on electric and upright.
Am ashamed to say I'd never heard of him till now, but was very impressed.
