I actually got this one by trading away a 20th without scratchplate. The 1st owner (or a very early one) had remowed it w heat (think iron), you could only very barely see a difference in shade where the scratchplate had been. Have to say the PU looked mighty lonely on that one. IMO, this is the way a 20th should look. I'll try to get a shot or two of the neck later. Will it become your 'go to' bass? [/quote] Well its still quite 'middy' compared to the the fenders. But that 18v preamp is a crazy horse. Its just so powerful. The bass and Treble EQ kicks the fenders into touch and with the added hi and low mid options (that I tend to keep the lows more dominent and the hi's cut quite a bit) its just tone overload for me. Plus the blend of the pups again just keeps you smiling with the sheer grunt you get from either pup depending on the eq setting of course. The playability of the bongo is just as perfect as my stingray was, however the jazz necks just fit so nicely. I seem to pick up the bongo more often however this could just be because its my new toy. The fenders are also nicer to look at ive been told (by everyone so far ) If i was to have 1 bass right now,,,its the Jag, however watch this space as I havent gigged or had full rehearsal with the bongo yet. I quite fancy one myself. I must admit it took me a while to get used to the look of the Bongo though when I tried some (incl 5- and 6-stringers) at a couple of previous music shows, I guess I was pretty much converted. Saved up for ages and ordered my dream bass after having owned stingray copies as a beginer. (nearly sold it twice....Idoit! If you see me attempting to sell it again, point me back this way!! ) Next, my Fretless Sabre/Stingray hybrid. Body is 1988, neck 90's. Bought on here a couple of months ago from "Snarf". Loving my fretless education with it. I am viewing it as abit of a project too. Would like to replace the nasty replacement bridge, re-finish and fit a Status neck at some point..... I really need to get one of these at some point, they look just perfect. I bet it sounds great too....I've come to the conclusion with MM basses that the heavier they are the more fabulous they sound......anyone else notice this, or is it just me.... My 30th actually weighs 4.3kg, which is spot on the same as my 20th posted earlier. Nevertheless, the 30th definitely sounds even more "Stingray" if that makes sense. The difference isn't huge, but it's clearly there when you A/B with fresh strings - even acoustically. I used to lust after these as a kid but never got round to actually buying one....I forgot how much i love them until i played this one in a local music shop yesterday.....Needless to say I bought it there and then! It was listed as '95 but as you can see when i took her apart she dates '93.....Few dings on her and a v well aged neck which works for me as I wanted something a bit mojo'd! Lovely flame/birdseye maple neck.....weighs in just under 10lbs..... As soon as i put the string mutes up on the E and A I knew it was the sound i've been searching for for sometime....Twas a good day! Nice colour and with maple which is always my Stingray fret board choice as a lot of this colour are rosewood like the 30th LE. I love my pre EB mutes and wish my EBMM had them too,I didnt think I would ever use them but for slow thumpy blues stuff they are the nuts!
