Wall hangers , cool as , but......

I have seen a few brands of wall hangers that all seem to work , and have seen some lovely displays of bass guitars and other stringed instruments adorning the walls , however, as a recent decorative and 'trendy' renovation to our music room , we have brick faced a couple of walls that are where I wanted to hang my collection , the problem I have, is that while decorated plaster finishes are quite benign to the odd bit of guitar/wall interface , I fear absolutely, that barefaced brickwork is somewhat less so.
I don't have a problem in myself or the family using my guitars, and accept the inevitable , I am no kit prima donna , but I don't want to tempt fate in this way.
Does anyone have any top ideas or proven solutions that will both retain the the look of a brick wall , yet provide enough protection for my axes .

I could always be being a fanny, and there is no issue , that conclusion from a voice of experience would also be good .
TIA

One or two small rubber faced protrusions placed behind where the body will be will solve the problem. One of those springy door stops maybe? You wont see them when hung and will be very inconspicuos when visible.

You are not being a fanny. Get some rubber blocks 2"x4"x2" ish. Secure them to the wall where the body would normally meet the wall. You would need to recess the fixing screwholes etc and it would look a little odd when the guitar isn't hanging but it would work a treat. I saw this at a bar we used to drink in, in Ireland and thought what a clever idea. I'm not sure if it was home manufactured or bought as it was quite well done but I'm sure it would be easy to replicate. Their walls were stone. Good luck.

Masonry drill and some deep seated wall plugs. Or expanding bolts.

I have 5 guitars hanging from a 10mm plasterboard wall

I reckon I can nail the things to the wall Tony , I built the room ;) , appreciatte the input though

it seems like there are some good ideas on this one , excellent , and hearing a story of its application is top , I could even use some odd shapes and make them a feature , B) , I think I will see what I can get by Mrs Lurks .

many thanks guys

ed to add ,
Thinking on, a bit of mastic will stick the pads to the wall , they will have no load and in theory won't even get touched , but are there if needed . I feel a plan coming on .

Photos will ensue when I get round to it .

thats the idea , yours looks superb , Are you just careful hanging them up then ?

'superb' being used with the noted excess of strings ;)

If the body is very close to the wall then the standard round door stops or amp feet will be perfect. recessed screw holes to. A quick look round any hardware store will give you lots of ideas and solutions. It might be better if they did touch the body. This will be more stable. Only drawback with this is just make sure your body finish wont be tainted or react with the rubber or whatever.

I am with you totally , you have helped evolve the idea , I have since googled some closed cell foam stuff , and that is up to 20mm thick , and might be a little more aesthetic if cut to shape . Mrs Lurks might be a tad , shall we say , objectionable , to having door stops screwed all over our brand new brickwork :o . Custom made always wins if compared to B&Q ;) , even if who is doing the customising is not entirely transparant  .

excellent point about the contact point reaction , I will investigate that one .

could you not make the room multi purpose? make it a fun adventure to get your basses. http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/metolius-super-7-set-p108075?gclid=CIqqr9K7krcCFdHLtAodsmQATg

Actually, the hangers hold the instruments at least 3" away from the walls - more than enough room to hang them up & take them down safely - unless you start them swinging quite a lot.

By the way, I'm having probs posting images (from Photobucket) - how did you do that?

Felt pads?
I'm cheap, me. KItchen roll cut to size, wrapped round the hangers and secured with carefully positioned rubber bands.

But felt would be good, I imagine.

You can get long reach hangers. I have one of these http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GSP40WB.html holding an Ashbory in between two short-arm hangers holding more conventional basses to save a bit of room. Here we go:

Cheers all , some great Ideas , I am leaning towards the Hercules jobbies , as I can tilt them to 45 degrees and stack them a bit tighter , those climbing grips look doody , but alas I am afraid of heights :P . I shall consider a little longer then make a decision when I am told what I am allowed  .
