lurksalot Posted May 12, 2013 Share Posted May 12, 2013 I have seen a few brands of wall hangers that all seem to work , and have seen some lovely displays of bass guitars and other stringed instruments adorning the walls , however, as a recent decorative and 'trendy' renovation to our music room , we have brick faced a couple of walls that are where I wanted to hang my collection , the problem I have, is that while decorated plaster finishes are quite benign to the odd bit of guitar/wall interface , I fear absolutely, that barefaced brickwork is somewhat less so. I don't have a problem in myself or the family using my guitars, and accept the inevitable , I am no kit prima donna , but I don't want to tempt fate in this way. Does anyone have any top ideas or proven solutions that will both retain the the look of a brick wall , yet provide enough protection for my axes . apa Posted May 12, 2013 Share Posted May 12, 2013 One or two small rubber faced protrusions placed behind where the body will be will solve the problem. One of those springy door stops maybe? the boy Posted May 12, 2013 Share Posted May 12, 2013 You are not being a fanny. Get some rubber blocks 2"x4"x2" ish. Secure them to the wall where the body would normally meet the wall. You would need to recess the fixing screwholes etc and it would look a little odd when the guitar isn't hanging but it would work a treat. I saw this at a bar we used to drink in, in Ireland and thought what a clever idea. I'm not sure if it was home manufactured or bought as it was quite well done but I'm sure it would be easy to replicate. Their walls were stone. Good luck. [/quote] it seems like there are some good ideas on this one , excellent , and hearing a story of its application is top , I could even use some odd shapes and make them a feature , , I think I will see what I can get by Mrs Lurks . many thanks guys ed to add , Thinking on, a bit of mastic will stick the pads to the wall , they will have no load and in theory won't even get touched , but are there if needed . A quick look round any hardware store will give you lots of ideas and solutions. It might be better if they did touch the body. This will be more stable. A [/quote] I am with you totally , you have helped evolve the idea , I have since googled some closed cell foam stuff , and that is up to 20mm thick , and might be a little more aesthetic if cut to shape . Mrs Lurks might be a tad , shall we say , objectionable , to having door stops screwed all over our brand new brickwork . Custom made always wins if compared to B&Q , even if who is doing the customising is not entirely transparant . excellent point about the contact point reaction , I will investigate that one .
