leschirons
You've got quite a few cool choices there for a trio. I play with a couple of trios here and we try to choose stuff that's suited to the available instruments so there's not too much missing from the general sound of the number. You could try Little wing Born to be wild Sharp dressed man All the small things Basket case Tulsa time I can't stand the rain Mercy Peaceful easy feeling Pretty vacant Ever fallen in love 500 miles (I'm gonna be) Old man Honky tonk women Boom boom (out go the lights) Cliffs of Dover

derrenleepoole
Doing a trio gig tomorrow night of singer, grand piano and me on upright All of the material is completely new and site read on the spot and we're doing stuff like 1. Pokerface - Lady Gaga 2. Forget You - Cee Lo Green 3. Hit Me Baby One More Time - Britney Spears 4. Use Somebody - Pixie Lott etc etc Now, I'm not a fan of pop music at all... but a lot of what we're doing tomorrow is stripping the tunes right back to a bluesy/jazzy interpretation, and some of these songs really work well - and are very well written indeed. It's also good to do stuff outside of your comfort zone to push your self Type of stuff we do in our band are: 1. Ace Of Spade - Motorhead - done as a fast swing number 2. Mannish Boy - Muddy Waters (the fast version off Electric Mud?) 3. Messin' With The Kid - Buddy Guy 4. Gotta Serve Somebody - Bob Dylan 5. Rocker - AC/DC - done as fast swing etc etc

xgsjx
I'm keeping an eye on this thread as I'm considering starting a covers band just for doing parties & events. Probably a 3 or 4 piece (if it's a 4 it won't be 2 guitarists, more likely a saxophonist or violinist) & the songs will be done in a different style from the originals (I don't like doing songs how they was recorded). Here's what I've got so far... Billie Jean One Sweet child o mine Crazy (Gnarles Barkley) Staying alive Masterblaster Feeling good Army of me Disturbia Still looking for others. Slipperydick
Thought of covering covers, Slightly different or updated or improved versions. try youtube ing these for example. Contraband-All the way from memphis. David le Roth-Really got me, or Tobacco Rd, etc. Why does nobody ever want to cover Turning Japanese ? great song, but singist seem to be embarrased if you suggest it lol. Another missed one is George Thorogood-Get your haircut and get a real job. Last 2 covers bands I was with had follically challenged lead singers, and the suggestion didnt go down well. I am forcing my lot to do Jessie J, Cee Lo Green, Black Eyed Peas etc. Not just for the kids but for me as well. I don't want to be playing the same 20 songs I was playing 20 years ago!
