Would have probably been easier if I wasn't playing it at sight and fretless. Just getting the timing of that bit at the start was a huge pain, plus it was back when I was just getting back into playing after a lengthy break and my fingers weren't nearly as fast or accurate as they are now. I dont mind the odd steady thumper but come on man just a little riff here and there anything! I got the most of it with some of the fills me not even coming close to, but I did manage to nail the solo from 2:11! After learning it I never managed to find a band that wanted to cover it (even as a more simplified version), but it taught me to use chords, harmonics & how to tap. I'm not sure what I would say was the hardest I have learnt, Probably something by Dave Barron in my sig (have a click and listen, Faded Memory maybe) which I have learnt as part of his live band. GarethFlatlands Posted April 23, 2011 Share Posted April 23, 2011 Continuing the Oceansize theme, I auditioned for them when their old bassist left and had to learn 'Women Who Love Men Who Love Drugs', 'Charm Offensive' and 'Homage to A Shame.' The first 2 were pretty straightforward apart from a few oddly timed sections but 'Homage to A Shame' was a killer to learn. Lots of off-time bit and a ton of separate sections to get to grips with. My plan of impressing them and learning a couple more tracks was well and truly scuppered after that one took up all the time I had available. Still fluffed it during the audition too. Main issue was that I was hearing it wrong, I thought the bass lines was changing and couldn't work out what it was doing until I realised the bass note was actually staying the same and everything else was changing. And i've never found a band willing to cover it We should do it with two basses The bit under the solo is the hardest part for me, one of my favourite songs to play. So much fun! It was the first 'complicated' line I had to learn and I play it with the covers band I'm in now. If the drummer starts the song off too fast I know I'm in trouble when I get to that bit!
