A couple of BCers have taken the plunge with these already and first impressions look very good.

If I can flog a few of my planks that aren't earning their keep, I might well treat myself to a red & black Retrovibe. :)
Body feels/looks like a Ric, but the string spacing is far more P-bass than Ric and so is the sound.
Those comments have really not helped my GAS re these.
Makes you wonder why they called it the Retrovibe.

Surely they should have called it the PRick.
Been done. :)

Anyway - there is a Rick copy with a "proper" P pup , the Jolana D, from mid-80s Czechoslovakia:

I'm not ashamed to admit I have a noticeable quantity of GAS for one o' them...

Well, first impressions are very favourable. I ordered it on Monday evening, and it arrived on Wednesday morning, which was actually mildly annoying as I couldn't play with it until tonight!

Nice weight, very playable. Lovely finish, no rough edges. As mentioned, it's loud! The bridge pup is quite high and was giving my little practice amp more than it could handle. I'll be lowering those over the weekend, as well as doing some general tweaking (there's virtually no relief in the neck at the moment). Not too impressed with the stock strings but that's no big deal.

It's the first time I've bought a bass unseen based on reputation and I'm happy to say it looks like it was a good move! I'll be playing it next week while my Precision is in for a way-overdue service and MOT, so we'll see which one becomes the go-to bass in due course...

Well I bloody love mine! I've got the red RV4 and as Ad (come on the bees) said 'it's alot of bass for the money'. I've still got the strings it came with on mine!!! Strange for me!!! Well at least they've stopped making my fingers black... I usually like to mod my Rickenfakers with real riki pups etc, but this one i'm going to leave!!! Yeah you heard right I'm going to leave it stock....! I'm so impressed with the pups that i'm seriously considering removing the riki pups on my Rockinbetter and fitting Musicman stlye pups!!
I've asked Probass if there was any thru necks planned in the future and was told that a thru neck would dramatically increase production costs for only a small change in tone over the set neck. So not at the moment.... but you never know. He's got Fireglo RV4's on the way I only hope he doesn't get tooo many colours as i've gone a bit OCD about these basses;-)
