I have two BF BBII cans and a Monaco. I usually use the Monaco, always through a PA and aim the cab at me and the drummer using a Standback amp/tilt stand. I even use it to my front/side as it is used as a monitor. It’s a fabulous cab. I use a Mesa + preamp, so can control the LF shelf if I get any boom issues. I also tend to play 5 strings more often than not and the cab copes easily. For reference, I’m running a Quilter 800 as a power amp. When I’m thumping my Doghouse, I do use a pair of BF BBII though, as they definitely take the abuse of slapping’ da beeass!

**ON HOLD** Custom Jazz Bass (audio demo included) Price Drop
fabbabass replied to Muzomatt's topic in Basses For Sale
I have an Elite J and it is wonderful…beautiful neck, but that body is big! Is this a standard size P? Someone is going to love this bass and I often think the Sadowsky’s always have that more comfortable feel with the slightly smaller body. I’ve toyed with the idea of having a Deluxe Jazz sized body made for the neck, because the Elite is that good. With the excellent truss road adjustment (that Musicman complained about and stopped Fender), those necks are the pinnacle of Fender’s design IMO. Good luck with the sale. -
Bought a Fender P Deluxe V from Paddy. Great to deal with, prompt shipping and packed superbly. The whole case was wrapped with carpet underlay, bubble wrap and plastic sheet and gaffer tape! Very effective. Thank you again. KC

Concur with most of this…still have a pretty rare ‘92 Kubicki era Modern Jazz v, which is nice, light and small bodied. I have an Elite J5 too as a preference over the Ultra. Only made for a couple of years, but upset Musicman with the truss rod wheel and the through bridge was stopped due to cost. They cut those two bits out, put the price up and named it the Ultra! I also have an Elite P which is wonderful to play, with a great neck, not too dissimilar to my ‘70 P, ‘B’ neck.

I have the BB800 (amongst many other amps) and use various preamps with it; Bassics, Mesa +, Aguilar, Radial and it always delivers. Even the EQ is effective once you work out how it works and it really seems to slam in a way that so few Class D amps seem to when you turn them up. This new one seems to be a logical move towards market acceptance, but I don’t think I’d be ready to replace my made in USA unit just yet.

Best strings for a fretted Wal bass.
fabbabass replied to MM Stingray 62's topic in Accessories and Misc
I got my Wal in ‘84 and it was fitted with Pocato nickel rounds. They were lovely and didn’t chew up the frets too badly as stainless steel might. I’d look at trying some nickels if you want a more modern sound but flats may be sweet and different. -
I believe Picato as a business was bought by Americans. They took all the machines from Wales (I think that’s where they were based) and started up over there. The price of the strings doubled, especially the DB strings and I think they are still going. That all sounds a bit vague but they are still available in the US. I remember having nickel rounds on my Wal and I liked them a lot. i managed to get a couple of NOS packs from Gareth on this forum a few weeks ago.

Received the three sets of strings from Gareth. Fast delivery and great comms. Thank you Sir. Kevin.

I’ve had one I picked up at Sam Ashe in the US, hung my L2500 for years, no issues. Where are you getting it from in the UK? I’d get another.
