2.
Sorry I am 19 so I assume that counts as young, dont be too jealous though I do lack bass talent unfortunately (hence punk band lol)
19 aswell .
  3.
Am i the only one who thinks the body shape looks very similar to a G&L ASAT Bass? that said i dont know if the axis guitar was released prior to the ASAT
Nah I think the same, both very ugly basses.
  4.
only a Kingston Heir not a 'real' MTD, I reckoned that my 6 string Dingy was a little fancy for a punk band so I got a 5 string Heir
Fair enough . Though I'm pretty sure the bassist of Streetlight Manifesto uses a 6, why not go against the grain? Or is it because they don't want to become Dream Theatre?
  5.
The band play in Drop C,the guitarist is a Big Keenan/Wylde fan,and its what the vox are easy with so....,Im the newbie.....,its one gig and Im like a greyhound at the traps...so I aint even thinking of radical suggestions yet (but I do moot about Drop A....coz then I can use my 6ers) and I dont wanna change anything yet nor rock the boat,no gigs til march, and I wanna start working with the drummer.
6's a full step down are so easy to get around on though I do love seeing someone get nervous when they try my 635 out, mostly because they have't played a 6 string before and the tuning screws them up . Surely you'd be more comfortable with the 6 Argh?
  6.
I can't spoke for ARGH, but I would say it's arguable that 'drop' tuning includes 'drop-D'ing your basses, i.e. just dropping the tuning of one string, changing the interval between one string and another. Changes the range relative to standard tuning, but also the intervals between the strings. Whilst 'down'-tuning to me brings up connotations of tuning down all your strings evenly, i.e. keeping same string to string intervals, but the range of the whole instrument is shifted down relative to standard tuning. Mark
Hmm fair enough, Argh why don't you try just going down a full step and see how you fair with it?
  7.
drop tuning is my issue, not down tuning.
Same thing isn't it surely?
  8. Ash I'll give you the answer I know you want to hear Ash + Maple+ Walnut = Thee Ultimate MTD tone. Zing. Growl. Warmth.
  9.
I am a student and I have solved those problems, girlfriend moves in: she removes the takeaway boxes and I get sex at home plus there is still an EBS head, an MTD and a Dingwall in my room... sex AND gear! sorted oh and I ride a unicorn
You've got an MTD?
  10.
The only beef Ive got is its in drop C,Im not a massive fan on drop tuning ,coz It reminds me of grunge, and that lazy crap in 92 that was called music back then, but thats my problem,I'll get over it... But C isnt really that cool for a 110 set,C sharp yes,but in C the E string is a bit 'wet noodle',I could just stop moaning and buy a light 5 string set and tune up,but Im a tightwad and I cant be bothered setting up and getting the neck settled for friday night.
Theres nothing wrong with detuning, all of my basses are a full step down, I really don't see myself playing in standard for a very long time and that'll only be when a guitarist gets too emotional over not being able to think for himself, it's a comfort thing as well as tone, I like having my F in the G position for example and I like to fret my low E in stead of an open string, and the tension is just perfect for my right hand as well, and tonewise my basses just sound sonically bigger and warmer than when in standard. I unerstand what you mean 100% about the stereotype of downtuning, it gives it a bad rep but most of the early 90's Hip-Hop/Funk was either recorded a full step down or a half step down, even funk stuff from the 70's and 80's was as well. And those recordings just sound so warm and beefy to my ears. Hold on a sec, has your 7 got a low B or a low F#? If so why not just sit down with the lines and work out when to put in the low c's when need be?
  11.
Yep. Both barrells and a bit of nasty to boot.
Tasty .
  12.
maybe i was just really lucky? i did have marcus trying them out for me in newcastle, he recommended one and i bought it! oh and after buying the metro i only waited about 2-3 months before i ordered my NYC! i'll be honest with you when it comes to recording i almost always end up using my metro UV70! seriously give em try!!
I'll hazard a guess and say that the Metros have more mids as opposed to the NYC's, I love mine because I dig in alot and it is pure Hi-Fi growl heaven, but it can lack warmth at times, and I'm guessing thats what the Metros provide. What say you Chris?
  13.
No-one asks me anything anymore,I just spout my wisdom at all and sundry.....
That's because your the Anti-Christ remember? I have a question though, is it metal?
  14.
Is the tonepump vol, blend, bass, treble? Lookin for a drop in curcuit for my jazz
It's 2 seperate volume controls, bass and treble, IMO more useful than a blend control.
  15.
I've got two, and that's exactly what happened to me. I bought my second within 12 months of buying my first.
I may do what Chris did, just the otherway around, I'll definetly get a Metro, but I really don't want to have to sell anything, especially my 635 and Spector.
  16.
you cant beat a good sadowsky!! but i would say that!!! lol nice to see you getting along with it! looks like a fantastic bass! (i almost bought it myself)
And whats worse is that I want another one already.
  17.
So Mike moved on from the scare factory? I wonder how Sully is getting on? Sorry, I have a 9yo Neice and a 3yo Nephew who stayed last night and we watched Monsters Inc.
I've lost my copy of it .
  18.
Actually, I did the first session with "Blondie UK" the other evening & they absolutely loved the tone & sound of my Status SII... Do I need another bass? LOL! Rich.
You need a Sadowsky, not just another bass .

Oooo another Roscoe user, great choice there Sir!
  20.
well, ive been asked to do one. i can always back down, but i wouldnt do that!
If it changes the feel of the song from just being a classic groover then I'd politely decline the offer.
  21.
damn it! i was hoping for something useful here! i have to write a bass solo for superstition by stevie wonder and just don't know where to begin. and i cant just make it up on the spot cos i gotta join it with the guitar solo, you know, do bits that you play in unison, then let the guitar go off and do what he wants, then i solo etc. i was actually expecting you to break down how to do a solo! twas a funny post anyway!
Do you HAVE to do a solo or are you just trying out sololing?
  22. I'd settle for that. I'm holding the door open for Bilbo though.
  23. Fender should refer to that bass for some new ideas.
  24.
Just wondering what an ash body and neck with a walnut burl top and a maple board would sound like?
Modern, Hi-Fi and growly.
From what I understand ash and maple would produce a quite bright and growly sound, but would walnut bring to the mix?
More compression/focus.
  25.
Indeed sorted. There's a man who has got it right - a 4x10 rig without the hassle factor when it comes to moving! I'm in that club and loving it!
And aesthetically 2 2x10's look bigger than a single 4x10, and now with the Gramma pad it's pretty much the same height as a 6x10, but of course without the pain.
Do you have pics of that 6 string anywhere?!? It looks gorgeous.
In my sig good sir .
