1. The timing of this thread isn't ideal, especially when I'm pining for another Warwick, I miss them
 2. Bump. Any nice high end 5 string Jazzers anyone wants to trade?
 3. Whack it with a bible and you'll be sorted .
 4.
there is a small lump there which I've had for ages but never caused any pain til I started playing bass!
A Ganglion cyst maybe?
 5.
My wrist (fretting hand) really hurts! It gets progressively sorer when I play, to the point where I can't play any more and this is limiting my practice, it is really frustrating. Haven't even played for that long today, only about two hours and it's throbbing like a mofo. Any ideas what I can do would be much appreciated! Cheers AM
Maybe you've just got to rest your wrist for a couple of days, if you haven't been playing too long you need to give your wrists/hands time to get use to it, it's that or you may be having problems with your technique.
 6. There is a compromise of sort, all Jazzers who want to get into metal need not to go any further than Ephel Duath: And I've only just realised that the singer kind of looks like Dood.
 7.
I've got an audition to get into music college coming up, and i want to get ahead with preparations, and so was wondering whether anyone had any suggestions for audition pieces - what would really impress you guys and what would you be looking for in a player !? I've had suggestions such as Dolphin Dance, Rampage - Marcus Miller, Nowhere to Run (Jamerson), some Jamiroquai tracks.. Then i thought of transcribing a piece.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated !! Happy Christmas !
Heyo, Well the songs you've listed are a very good place to start, a very good variety between them and all quite bass specific. If it was me you were auditioning for, I'd be looking to see if your more capable of keeping things simple and if you have a good feel for groove, I'd also look to see if (when applicable) your compitent when it comes to soloing both with an ensemble and without. If you do manage to select a piece and transcribe it successfully that would also go down quite well, it'll show better examples of your theory and ability put together. I hope thats some help. Josh.
 8. I've been trying to figure this one out for the last few weeks, IMO it's like the sister song to Forget Me Nots.

Thanks again, Josh.
 11.
Lots of great Spector-love on here recently.... I'm getting lovely warm, fuzzy feelings.... finally everyone understands what I've been harping on about for years!
I'd say unlike most basses that generate mass hysteria, Spectors are more subtle and much more worthwhile. For a mass produced bass (Obviously besides the USA's, which I shall be getting very soon ) the qaulity is staggering, the variety of tones is great and luckily are not a bass to be easily stereotyped, unlike Warwicks and Fenders etc... Also, a little food for thought which I said to John but I'll say it here for future reference, how good must a mass produced £800 bass be if it has made me want to get rid of a bass of much higher value and craftsmanship? IMHO, they are amazing basses and I think I may have found the bass that is 100% right for me.
 12.
The impostor and the originator... <edit> I've yet to bling the Spector out with the new gold knobs that I have.
Aww Imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery
 13.
Josh, I have a 2005 USA Spector Bolt On.Redwood Burl Top.I think the model is Bolt-On Series NS-5H2-EX >if you are interested leave me know and I can send you on some pics over the weekend,All the best,Mick.
Hey Mick, Pm'ed.
 14.
As soon as I get strings to match my SSI I'm up for doing a direct A/B recording comparison between the EMG/Tonepumped Spector Euro and the MEC/MEC '90 SSI. That should be quite interesting as acoustically at the moment they are worlds apart.
Ooo do tell.
 15.
Lightweights.....
Hmm, well hold on, both me and Steve play/played High-End Boutique basses, and you yourself have a few GB's, Steve played Ken Smiths and I play an MTD, all which have a very Hi-Fi and crisp tone. So really, I'd just like to be able to have a bass of cheaper value but sounds almost as Hi-Fi.
 16.
Seems to have worked for Spector for nearly 30 years....you don't think you're just being picky?
I'm kind of with Steve on this one. Whilst the core tone of my Spector is great, I personally would like to have a more Hi-Fi esque edge to the treble whereas I find the treble as it is quite harsh, also, I'd like to be able to control the overall mids and have just one master volume. I am seriously considering a EMG BQC system to see if that helps, maybe you should look into it as well Steve?
 17.
Haha i did think that but wanted to hear it from someone else. From what i remember they have a very mid sound with no bright treable at all. Maybe a good jazz is the answer for a good all round bass.
Rickenbackers have only one sound unfortunately, and thus is the lure to them but I've never seen/heard the fuss being justified. Though as previously said, they are just as iconic as the P-Bass and Jazz. A good Jazz will cover most of the tones, but it depends what tones your after exactly man.
 18.
Hi all im thinking of trading my 08 p bass for a rickenbacker bass, but i have the problem that i have never heard one! can someone give me an idea of the tone? I love the p. but it lacks in the slap sound. How does a rick sound for slap? Regards, Rich.
Rickenbackers + Slap = Fail. Umm almost anything by The Jam I guess, or Yes or early Rush. They are generally very aggressive sounding, awkward to play and have looks only a proud mother could love. Yet they are an icon.
 19. Just to say, Ben is a legend to deal with and this bass for it's age is in damn good condition and Ben has done a great job of restoring it further.
 20.
Awwwww what a nice tale, told so nicely. Until I joined Basschat, I was completely ignorant of the brand. But thanks to this forum, I was made aware of there being 'something about Spectors'. I took advantage of the Soundcontrol thing, and #### my old boots, I've hit total GOLD. Ergonomics, build quality, feel, sound ...it's better than I ever thought possible for a production line bass (mine's a Euro LX5-EX poplar burl). There's no mass neurosis here ...they really are brilliant instruments and the NT's will hold their value.
Have you actually got any pictures of your Spector at all B2BM? Just wonderng purely because I just love looking at the EX tops
 21.
Good to see your add though spectorhunt
We are forbidden to call him that...yet.
 22.
So Josh, is it a NT? Looks very nice although I prefer the gold Knobs myself.
Indeed it is man, sustains for weeks and the construction is just spot on. These really are amazing basses, any bassist needs to try/own/play one at least once in their lifetime, and I know John will have to be held back when I say this, but, this Spector is much more Warwick sounding than any Warwick I've had. The fuss their getting as of late is well worth it and I'm really happy to see the amount of players who are being blown away by these relatively cheap basses. Yours will compliment your Thumb quite nicely man.
 23. Would you give it a chance? Don't be scared John, they don't have to fully replace your Warwicks...yet.
 24.
In my case I've actually ended up with something I like better, but make sure you play any replacement first, mate. Best of luck with it. Rich.
Indeed I will Rich, it's what me and Barrie are in the process of, he's borrowing my 535 and I'm borrowing his Sadowsky, and basically set ourselves a least 2 months before we definetly decide, and luckily I don't miss the 535 at all, though Barrie may want his Sadowsky back, which isn't a bad thing at all .
 25.

That is f***ing awesome man!
