  1. Yes that’s definitely been an issue with vintage Fenders, and there’s the slightly weird situation where despite there being lots of dealers now, they compete by charging highest prices - often with a tag line of you’ll never find another like this - for the mass produced item they’re selling 😂
  2. Simple. Price it too high and you limit your market size. Price low and you will increase your market size but attract buyers who foresee potential uplift when they flip it - nothing wrong with that if you’re happy to sell for the price.
  3. I suppose with it being a scaled up operation and parts getting cheaper that wouldn’t be a surprise. However, there are still absolute dogs in the vintage market, all be it lots were modified.
  4. It was the reviews of playing these arco that put me off and I ended up getting a cheap 3/4 DB. I’d love to try a Yamaha silent bass but can’t justify the price of a decent German bass on one. Unless you’ve played with a bow before I’d recommend lessons for it. I didn’t find it an intuitive skill.
  5. That’s going to sound god awful if you hit a bum note. I’ve heard of synth backing but if it’s a pre recorded bass guitar then you might as well mime along.
  6. There’s better ways to say you disagree. You have your experiences, I have mine. Jones bass has his and there’s nothing wrong in having more basses in the world.
  7. Come on read what I said properly. I state two things you’ve neglected to recognise before posting a sarcastic response. 1) I specifically refer to large ensembles where you see less Fenders in typical professional bands compared to 5 string active boutiques. 2) I specifically referred to modern fenders. Even in smaller ensembles (bands) a lot of the Fender used are vintage (pre 80s) because the tone cuts through the mix better and has that full fat timbre. I’m sure they’d use modern fenders instead if they cut the mustard given how much cheaper and easier to maintain they are.
  8. Ian is now giving away some transcriptions on his YT via a mailing list
  9. If I wanted a workhorse 5 string active bass, I wouldn’t be looking much further than a sadowsky metro line - the Japanese ones. They’re light, well balanced and sit in the mix perfectly. For noodling at home I’d probably wait for an Overwater in budget.
  10. I assume it decapitated itself
  11. Is it this one 😂 https://reverb.com/uk/item/86377042-custom-made-viking-axe-bass-guitar-free-shipping-hard-case
  12. Is it that rare? I wouldn’t want to be on the end of those import duties! Regarding the pickup, I think your previous plan of an upgrade is fine. You don’t need that level of hassle from Epiphone.
  13. Pubs tend to stick to solo musicians around me
  14. Well they describe the condition as “god” so if he’s played it, it might be okay.
  15. Bagpipes require an arrest warrant
  16. IMO this is fine. It’s replacing a broken part, and as you say it’s near impossible for like for like so why not get the best alternative.
  17. Hope you get back on your feet soon
  18. Great new bass but I would be furious at being let down for a bass after spending that on flights! Hope it wasn’t a basschatter!
  19. If you’re matching drinks, a glass of champagne and a shot of black jaegermeister would complete the look
  20. From what I remember they were used in the 60s to earn double fee on sessions. Is that what you’re doing? If not I think you can save yourself the torture 😆
  21. I got my P bass at 16. It’s the only one of two basses that have stuck around.
  22. I know, sorry I remembered it as pet academy’s thread!
  23. There was a list of funk tracks created by a former BC member. Worth searching for as it is a very long list!
