  1. The old double basses certainly are!
  2. What if you already have a bag but you’re buying a new one because it has extra pockets, a fancy lining or it’s a leather harvest gig bag! I think that should count as a fail, but then again I think the same should apply for straps. Maybe there needs to be a god tier?
  3. Blimey some of you were learning tricky stuff to start! Mine was smoke on the water Deep Purple, as played by most teenagers in music stores 😂
  4. Sadly didn’t get to meet Nick, but I recognise him and his many basses either from here or bass magazine. It’s clear from the outpouring on here and FB that he was at the heart of the big bass community in the UK. Thoughts go out to those closest to him.
  5. Since we’re sharing snaps! Passive bass of doom-esq J4
  6. I’ve not played an active custom shop but the relic stuff isn’t.
  7. When I bought mine it was only a couple hundred more than the Fender artist range! So I was always going to opt for something hand made to my spec in the UK! Plus you can guarantee it will sound great with an Overwater, unlike Fender, even custom shop!
  8. I think it’s more a question of how do these people have the money in the first place! Monaco is really struggling to develop sufficient infrastructure for the demand, but yes obviously a global approach is required across the west.
  9. If loyalty points are okay I can’t see how trading children or pets would be a fail.
  10. You can’t sight read tab though if there’s no rhythm markings!
  11. I would actually prefer a decent refinish to a knackered body finish. But the biggest turn off for me is dents/ scratches to the neck that you feel while playing.
  12. That’s still probably more than what was paid for it new. As with everything the prices have shot up recently. Luckily bass bros tend to be more reasonable with their prices, I guess to shift items quickly.
  13. I’m sure you know what was meant. There were so many produced and many modified to different degrees, making it very tricky to pick up on all the anomalies. It’s not like cars where everything (baring scrapes and small accidents) is normally documented and therefore traceable.
  14. Short scale in general are in vogue and this way players can have the usability and vintage Fender sound in one. @ped’s sounds ace even if modified! This topic only became a problem when the replies were aggressive. Otherwise it’s a good discussion to have on Fender basses golden era.
  15. Not sure why this needed a separate thread to the vintage fender one, but no it doesn’t appear that any records were kept and therefore everything is a best guess approach.
  16. It’s a top notch design made in small numbers to a very high standard. Of course the name increases demand, that’s the point of having the license.
  17. Haha love that idea! Unfortunately it won’t be me….. or will it 🤔🤣
  18. Cash can also expire if not used 😂 if you win a bass in a competition you’ve bought a ticket to or had to do something in exchange for a chance (SBL or bassbro competitions) then that’s still a purchase, just like using loyalty points. But if anyone wants to half arse the challenge then it’s no skin off my nose.
  19. I was going to suggest garage or shed but it might get a damp smell instead! Depends which is worse I guess 😂
  20. So what he has sent you is correct for what you will perform then? Being a different key to an original track is common in many covers gigs depending on instruments or vocal ranges.
  21. How would I in the UK, know about your repair shop or memoire? Not seen your ads either, do you sell as many as those UK retailers mentioned?
  22. If I was given the music you had, I wouldn’t detune at all. Could be that the arrangement you’re playing is in a different key to the original. Or the arranger has royally cocked up…
  23. All looks to be standard tuning to me. just follow the tab and you’ll be fine.
  24. Simply put, there is evidence of them taking apart many instruments and building knowledge, whereas we have to take your word for it. Not that your input on here isn’t appreciated, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be challenged. In regards to meeting someone qualifying them as the only source of truth… people’s anecdotes of their past isn’t always accurate.
  25. That guy is such a good musician! Hopefully they have a really good design idea because I think Jones’ craftsmanship deserves something aesthetically pleasing.
