  1. This defintely falls into the “rare basses you never see for sale” thread in GD right now.
  2. The philippe dubrieulle jazz bass I once played and missed out on. It was for sale in Wunjos maybe 15-20 years ago and never to be seen again. I check online occasionally just to see if it’s resurfaced but no such luck.
  3. I think we’ve deduced it happened but isn’t a sign of originality that can be used to accurately date a Fender bass. An interesting find nevertheless.
  4. “Shall we fix it Leo?” “Nah who is ever going to notice that!” 60 years later….. 😂
  5. Sounds just like a bass balls to me
  6. I have had a few Warwick’s and love them, but I’ve played a few Spectors and never gelled with the necks or sound. Although the streamer shape was copied, I wouldn’t say they’re the same at all.
  7. That’s his effort at stringing the listener along. Otherwise everyone would click out after 2 mins and he wouldn’t get his revenue. All of these fellow YouTubers that have made videos are doing so to take a slice of the audience share. They may not make money off a video if they share audio from the whatever the guitarist is called, but they get the increase in subscribers and ratings, as well as a boost for their other videos that do make revenue. And as for stealing licks and passing them off as your own, jazz soloists did this way back when. Only difference is they couldn’t transcribe them so easily note for note as most recordings were bootleg. As with any music you create, get it registered on PPL and PRS.
  8. Good idea in principle but not all guitars are identical, with woods being a natural product. Then if they’re second hand it’s how they’ve been treated, one could have a warped neck and never been setup, the other looked after meticulously. if it was me and I was spending that sort of money, the trips would be worthwhile but I also know these models tend to sell fairly fast.
  9. I imagine the majority of his basses still have these on. From what I’ve heard he doesn’t tend to change them.
  10. Sounds flashy. I worry a bass like that would be like a one night stand. A lot of fun for the moment but once you start dealing with the complexities regularly, you realise a passive tone and volume type girl/ bass gives a consistent good time 😂
  11. Doesn’t reach the fretboard either 😂
  12. What would it do that your current basses can’t? I’m sure we can help you save yourself!
  13. Marcus at Bassdirect did a video on mark king basses which used a few Jaydees from different eras. Might be worth giving them a call, they have them in from time to time.
  14. Not sure myself, but doesn’t look like the usual J Torres stamp.
  15. What’s everyone’s thoughts on this one? I’m not sure about either finish or P/G. I thought factory black would have come with a white/ mint guard and only sunburst or white would have tort… https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass-new-arrival/products/fender-p-63 too beaten up for my taste and the sticker residue/ mark would really annoy me.
  16. Out of curiosity what are the expected marks in a pickup cavity for a 60’s Fender?
  17. It seems the seller and BD disagree on the originality of the body and as far as I know there’s no way to definitively date one, especially refinished? It wouldn’t surprise me if BD might be being vague on purpose to protect themselves.
  18. Instruments are still in demand but the idea of a shop has been hampered by the demise of high street attendance in general. Without wanting to state the obvious, the shops that seem to make it work are specialists where people will travel specifically and more likely purchase as a result.
  19. Think I had one of those. I remember it being a warm tone at volume, certainly too good for the venues I was playing at that time.
  20. 5,8 but otherwise nailed on for me 😂 I once played my fretless with a group of bass players and my intonation of the first position on the G string was awful. I just couldn’t get near the note. I probably play 50/50 acoustic and plugged in at home so if it sounds good acoustically that helps.
  21. If it was sold, market expectation is for it to be pulled apart for the pictures anyway? The OP has indicated he would keep all the original parts. Once back together, the prospective new buyer would know no difference.
  22. As long as you keep the original parts it’s all reversible! The reason there are so many after market parts is down to people “upgrading”
  23. Yeh it’s annoying but fair play for listing. I’m sure there’s plenty that wouldn’t on a rewound pickup. edit: just seen your similar post further up. Note to self, read the whole thread before commenting!
  24. Check out this beauty! This is my second favourite pre CBS colour combo after black with matching h/s: https://bassbros.co.uk/product/1964-fender-jazz-bass/
