    £100 difference from a Squier Affinity. Wouldn't say that is loads. Maruszczyk also known to be great value for money. Compared with a Lakland or Fender standard series the Sire for me wins hands down.

    I don't know why you would put the other basses in the same discussion as a Sire. The V7 I had was better than most new £1000 basses. A squire Affinity series definitely is nowhere near it as a comparison of playability, sound, or quality.

    If it sounded good I would take that. You’re not going to get any closer to a 70’s Fender Jazz for under £1k

    I have a mex P bass that was ok but I then put some new pickups in it and it gave it the old school sound with a lot more bottom end. Also has a crunchier top end when the tone is full wack.

    Like I said though, amazing in a band situation. When I was playing regularly I had terrible GAS for one but now my situation has changed and I look for other things in a bass (Ken Smith 👀). Also on the plus for Sadowsky the playability has been amazing on all the ones I’ve tried. It must be really easy to setup and I think attention to detail of fretwork probably helps. Again something that we’re all very grateful for when playing 2 hours + a gig but not necessarily essential when noodling.

    Wow, that got out of hand! It’s something I’ve experienced when playing other people’s Sadowsky’s both in a band, and not in a band context and at various levels. I also love hearing other people playing Sadowsky’s in a band. But when it’s just me playing one I don’t hear any character. Yes the pre gives you lots of options but they have never delivered a sense of occasion. I had a Sire for a couple of years and that had tonnes of character. When I’m playing at home, whether through headphones or an amp I really want to be inspired by the sound of the bass and for me Sadowsky’s don’t do that.

    This is the thing with Sadowskys. They only come into their element when playing with a band and they cut through the mix unlike anything else. Not one for the bedroom bassist but are loved by working ones.

    Hey Louis, Made in Mexico Fenders aren’t worth anything as an investment because so many of them are mass produced each year. Rosewood fretboards might in time be worth more because of the limited availability caused by CITES and sustainability projects. its quite difficult to know what guitars could be a good investment, but the higher end stuff tends to fair worst for keeping value compared to cheaper guitars.

    The girls love it, mine had the same reaction even through headphones, but unfortunately for me it just wasn’t to be at that time. I’m glad it’s no longer in the hands of a collector though, that bass deserves to be played!

    Wow congratulations Al, is that the smaller bodied one? I tried it when it was new and was desperate for it but decided to get on the property ladder instead. Keep me in mind should you wish to part from it.

    Looks like a passive streamer which was the most basic rock bass they did. IIRC they were only £200 new 15 or so years ago when I got a Fortress 5 (very good bass shouldn’t have sold it so quickly).

    Thanks Ped. It was just my bass amp at my parents house but I’ve not used it since I was 18 (10 years ago) for more than a noodle so it’s remained virtually untouched. Anyway they’re moving house and I now have a house so I have it back. I have no use for it hence it being cheap.

    Selling a 65 watt bass amp that has only had light home use. Everything is working as it should. Selling cheap as it is cash on collection and I need to free up some space. The amp itself has an in-built compressor and a 3 band EQ. There is also a separate input for passive and active basses, as well as FX send and return.

    I had a Warwick Thumb NT with a broken trussrod (seller on here didn’t forewarn). The bass gallery fixed it for me for just £80 and it was good as new. With it being a neck through it was a greater task than this would be. I would keep it and get a respectable luthier to change the trusrod.

    I mostly use D’addario roundwounds and half wounds but I was bought a set of Rotosound flats for Christmas a few years ago and they’ve been on my p bass every since, replacing the Thomastiks which I had three or four sets of. The tone is much deeper and once I got used to the feel they are completely natural. Still going strong after two years too.

    I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Jake Newman (on here) used to occasionally teach there. Great teacher who gave me some lessons on double bass when I was beginning. I studied at ACM (just outside London) but frequently was in London and moved there for 5 years after I graduated. Theres loads going on but once you're out of the student bubble, getting gigs is hugely competitive which is something to bare in my mind. I eventually ran out of energy and made the move to Manchester which also has a good scene.

    Selling my Sire Marcus Miller V7. Bought as a back-up and rarely used so in excellent condition. I also bought the Sire gig bag which at the time wasn't available outside of the US and cost me £50 off a bass chatter. There are no flaws with this bass and all the parts seem sturdy and well built. Unfortunately I don't have any scales so although it doesn't feel heavy for my small stature, I can't say for sure. Collection only from central Manchester and no trade offers please !

    Overwater might not be out of budget. My 2017 fretless jazz had optional extras including a flamed top and I believe that was below the £2500 mark. In fact I was looking at a Fender Jaco artist bass before it because I thought the Overwater would be really expensive but it was around the same price. Always worth sending Chris an enquiry

    When you get to these price points it’s very specific to what you want from the instrument. Martin uses more exotic woods, Sadowskys are perfect for someone who plays a variety of shows, neither hold value very well. As someone who plays mostly in my bedroom, I prefer something more exotic so I would probably favour the Sei. However, I actually favoured Overwater when I had a super jazz built, and the other bass I really want is a 5 string Ken Smith Black Tiger.

    Agreed. I made my first visit this year and while the shop is small they have some unbelievable stuff. I also found them very kind and despite it being busy they made lots of time for me. Unfortunately the girlfriend won and I came away with nothing but in the spirit of Arnie, I’ll be back!
