Break in takes time, time is money.
Agreed. But if it was really critical, it would be par for the course. This thread is interesting. I've learn I also need to change my band's contract. "We refuse to play at any other temperature apart from 20°C as any variance in temperature may lead to substandard speaker performance." Those buskers must be f**ked this time of year.
Both drivers were fresh, they're handmade samples - to quote the transducer designer we've been working with: "The first samples were measured when it was about 18 deg C outside; the second ones at 8-9 deg C. Things stiffen up a bit from lower temps and always give you a touch more extension on the top end. They’re built with the same parts, though…" But it shows that it's not as simple as anyone claims! I remember an incident on talkbass when someone was arguing about something tone related regarding bass cabs - it went on for a while and his opinion seemed like it should carry some weight, seeing as he was an experienced professional bassist. Then he mentioned that his hearing was completely screwed, to the point that even his hearing aids in it was way off how it had been in his youth, due to years of high SPL damage. He didn't seem to get the irony that he was being very forceful with his opinions on how something sounded yet he didn't have the sensory perception to analyse the sound accurately - like if I commented on David Hockney's massive recent exhibition without my glasses on. I know of countless cabs that have been delivered unboxed, straight to the stage or the recording studio without any running in. I myself delivered some cabs to Tal when she was with Jeff Beck and those cabs were unwrapped infront of her. She didn't seem to care. Whilst the science may hold true, the reality is that I don't think the average (or not so average) end user really cares. If it was that critical, I would imagine that the driver manufacturer themselves, or at least the cab manufacturer would do the running in for you... afterall, you only get to make a first impression about a cab once. If the cab does sound noticably different, then it would be worth the aforementioned third parties time to do something about it. Just a thought.

In my experience, when things like this happen, if it's out of warranty, hit up eBay. Even if you find a cosmetically challenged pedal, you can always lift the internals and put in your existing case. Digital pedals generally have the boards thrown and replaced with new ones... it's all down to whether you are ripped on the replacement board and postage costs to see if it's worthwhile. And don't be surprised if the parts are being sourced from the States (Not had experience with Line 6 directly so they may keep a set of spares in the UK, or then again, they may just concentrate on retail). Either way, good luck!

Are Stingrays the new Warwicks, price wise?
EBS_freak replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Bass Guitars
True, true. -
And who can forget Mel and Kim?

You having two female singers are awesome. Start going through some of the Bangles back catalogue... and Bananarama. (OK I know they have more than two but you know..)
rickenbacker havn't yet.
That's because everybody is else is knocking them out instead... -
Both singers+1 Thigh highs and skimpy stagewear. You'll be struggling to keep up with the number of gigs.

You need your EBS amp and cab first

Please help out bass legend Joe Osborn!

Yes but has he made it his own? -
Dont worry its not for sale
Until the next MM comes up and you need to use the hanger!
Hi everyone, I need some strap advice. I own a Neotech Mega Strap, which is super comfy, but unfortunately is just slightly too big for me at its shortest. I've looked around at a couple of the more similar strap in its price range but not many of them seem to go lower than 43" or are even adjustable at all so I was wondering if anyone could throw me some names to take a look at. Thanks.
I had the exact problem with exactly the same strap... - I took it to Johnson's dry cleaners(!) on the high street as at the time I didn't know anybody with a hardcore sewing machine and they shortened it for me. Cost me a tenner at most from what I remember. I used that up until the point where I changed to a short comfort strap but then decided I didn't like them as much (or the look) and then changed to Harvest straps.
I think £300 would very very ambitious....I think you'd be lucky to see £200 tbh yeah sell it in bits
£300 would be a steal. That thing plays and sounds sublime. But yeah, realising £200 for it is probably about as good as it gets

Routing a new pickup hole into the body? Pete - you forgot your Fender logo which makes it priceless. Anyway, consider this... Early sixties jazz bass, routed for an extra pickup... devalued? You'd think so. What happens if you have non questionable evidence that Leo himself did it?

There is a GB facebook page on there somewhere - sporadic updates though. Anyway Marcus, looks like you've been well and truely bitten by the bug!

I don't think that it's unique to Stingrays - I think a load of the more mainstream brands, e.g. Fender, Gibson, Rickenbackers are prone to this pricing. I still think it's worse with Warwick - some of those 3k+ Streamers still have difficultly fetching much above a grand on the used market. -
EBS without a doubt - its what Bernie develops the circuit with. HD350 or TD650 or the Reidmar if you want cheaper. See if you can get a proline cab too.

Nice work. What amp you playing through?

Good move - the MarkBass cabs - and I know that they have their fans, just don't deliver the clarity that I believe they should. The Vanderkley cabs are impressive beasties.

I have had a few Yamahas over the year... The BBNE2 is amongst one of the best basses I've ever played. I've currently got a RBX375 - it's a good bass for the money but I found the strings that shipped with it (d'addario?) just wouldn't stop in tune. For a budget bass, for me, they are amongst the best, if not the best. The only thing that they haven't got going for them is the name on the headstock

Muse's Chris Wolstenholme now using Markbass
EBS_freak replied to chrismuzz's topic in Amps and Cabs
Quite surprised by that... mind you, given the amount of effects he uses, it doesn't really make a difference what he goes through. -
Out of that list... for me, the EAD, the finish on that should keep the cab looking good for many years. Just make sure you keep the protective slip on it to prevent the grill getting scratched up. The Genz 212 mentioned is great, the EBS 2x12 is great if you like your top end response (but remember it can be tamed by a tweeter) and you should defo look at the offerings from Berg and Vanderkley. At this level, there is no wrong choice, it's just preference. What amp are you using? PS a lot of the cabs you mention have a similar footprint to a 4x10... The Genz is probably the wiser choice if you want the benefits of getting the drivers closer to your ear whilst taking up a smaller footprint... oh and it sounds great.
