[/quote] I had the exact problem with exactly the same strap... - I took it to Johnson's dry cleaners(!) on the high street as at the time I didn't know anybody with a hardcore sewing machine and they shortened it for me. Cost me a tenner at most from what I remember. I used that up until the point where I changed to a short comfort strap but then decided I didn't like them as much (or the look) and then changed to Harvest straps.

I don't think that it's unique to Stingrays - I think a load of the more mainstream brands, e.g. Fender, Gibson, Rickenbackers are prone to this pricing. I still think it's worse with Warwick - some of those 3k+ Streamers still have difficultly fetching much above a grand on the used market.

EBS without a doubt - its what Bernie develops the circuit with. HD350 or TD650 or the Reidmar if you want cheaper. See if you can get a proline cab too.

Good move - the MarkBass cabs - and I know that they have their fans, just don't deliver the clarity that I believe they should. The Vanderkley cabs are impressive beasties.

I have had a few Yamahas over the year... The BBNE2 is amongst one of the best basses I've ever played. I've currently got a RBX375 - it's a good bass for the money but I found the strings that shipped with it (d'addario?) just wouldn't stop in tune. For a budget bass, for me, they are amongst the best, if not the best. The only thing that they haven't got going for them is the name on the headstock

Quite surprised by that... mind you, given the amount of effects he uses, it doesn't really make a difference what he goes through.

Out of that list... for me, the EAD, the finish on that should keep the cab looking good for many years. Just make sure you keep the protective slip on it to prevent the grill getting scratched up. The Genz 212 mentioned is great, the EBS 2x12 is great if you like your top end response (but remember it can be tamed by a tweeter) and you should defo look at the offerings from Berg and Vanderkley. At this level, there is no wrong choice, it's just preference. What amp are you using? PS a lot of the cabs you mention have a similar footprint to a 4x10... The Genz is probably the wiser choice if you want the benefits of getting the drivers closer to your ear whilst taking up a smaller footprint... oh and it sounds great.

The pickup may be actually too close to the B string and the magnetic field could be influencing the vibration of the string and causing all sorts of funky overtones? Eitherway, we could do with some better descriptions...!

It's always better if somebody owns the PA outright to avoid any complexities at the band split. The way one of my bands has financed the PA is that one person has bought it and charges a nominal PA hire fee of £50 per gig (which is used to pay off PA). The one guy ends up with the PA as an asset - but that worked for the rest of the band.

Also depends upon how high you have your action. You may not notice neck movement with a high action but you certainly will if you play with a fag paper action.

A hazer can still trigger an alarm but that requires a lot more effort than with your standard smoke machine. When buying a smoke machine, don't just go for the cheapest though - you may want to investigate ones with timers to ensure a constant stream of smoke, or possibly in the future, you may want something controllable by DMX. Also look at how much smoke they generate - for example, small smoke machines can take up to a minute or so to provide good coverage. Other monster machines can achieve the same in a few seconds.

Depends on the venue. You may want to look at hazers though - they are more fire alarm friendly. Talk to the gaffer before hand to avoid any sticky situations... you just have to accept, as awesome as it makes the lights look, you won't be able to at every gig.
